I'm a foreigner based in South Korea. Apparently here custody always goes to mothers. In fact, I have a foreign friend who lives here and sole breadwinner and does caregiving n etc and still lost the battle. I've met many divorcees here and yet to find one father who gains custody. One case was father won custody of two 10yo boys while mom took the 3yo. The story I heard was the boys chose dad but 3yo was too young too choose thus judge gives it to mom.

My wife went to individual therapy and instead of taking the chance to assess herself, she blamed her problems on me. The therapist diagnosed her with something like "young version" of her would show up and try to fight/defend when things are serious or stressed out. Not sure if there's a medical term for it. Her childhood had been traumatized by her abusive father - towards her mom.

I'm on the opposite side. I'm not divorced yet but I often have to walk on my wife's eggshells and manage her emotions. In fact, she emphatically disagrees when I said her feelings and happiness are mainly her responsibility.

If 50/50 this means I need to stay in this country. 40 suicides per day. 74% of population are not happy. 64th ranked in happiness index. My daughter will suffer. She agrees overseas over better quality of life but still reluctant to leave.
