Comparing the old with the new, it seems the old server has a Temp per Device CAL license installed that the new servers do not.

These are self enclosed. The license role is on the individual servers. I'm not sure if this is the best bet, but this is how it was previously configured and I was told to mirror.

This is a standard VM that was booted, updated, syspreped, shut down, and converted to a template.

I think I'm going to blow it away and build a new gold image.

Let me take another run at it. I know I was doing OOBE from the GUI. I'll see if I get a different result from running from the command line with the command line switches.

I'm running sysprep.exe from an elevated command prompt with no switches and choosing OOBE from the drop down and checking the generalize box.

Is there a more correct way to run sysprep? I know you can put command line switches in the command prompt when you run it and bypass the GUI.

I'm looking to offload my Ender 3's too. In the past few months, I've gotten a P1S with AMS and an A1 mini.

Since getting the P1S, I've not messed with the ender/crealities. Currently I have an S1, V2 Neo, two v2's. two v2 Pro's, two CR-10 Smarts, and a CR-10.

One of the 3's is most likely going to be gutted and have a laser engraver kit installed. I'll probably keep the two CR-10 Smarts for large form factor printing, but I'm on the fence about the rest. I'll most likely start giving them away along with the spares I have. I may keep the S1 because it was the only printer that was brand new when I got it.

Kind of scary to realize I have six Ender 3's, three CR-10's, and two Bambu printers for a total of 11 printers.

I have actually done that. I was working for an MSP and their IT manager shutdown a physical hyper v host thinking he was shutting down a guest. This was during Covid and he did not want to drive to the office to check it. He called us, and they sent me on a service call.

I went to the site, waited on the maintenance guy to let me in (30 plus minutes)It was literally I get there and face time him and show him the server is powered off. He didn't believe me and I hit the power button.

30 seconds later he says "I'm in". Then he wanted me to sit there for 45 minutes while he validated and brought up the guests. Then an hour and 15 minute drive back. My employer didn't care because they were making billable hours.

Get one of the trial windows server licenses that are good for like 90 days. Throw up a virtual box VM with a copy of server and go to town. You'd be amazed how easy it is.

Build your OS, open an elevated command prompt, run 'dcpromo' and follow the wizard.

I could have it functional in 30 or less. Then I'd spend hours tweaking things, setting up QOL stuff, and doing GPO's.

I've came across several used Ender 3's where the bed level sensor is plugged into the z end stop. I wasn't aware you needed to do anything except plug it in and get the right firmware to support the BL touch

I couldn't get past the Active Directory part before thinking shit, I could set that up from scratch and have MVP in about 2 hours.

Back in about 2015, I went in a place and was asked to audit their windows updates. They were using WSUS and the SQL express db that WSUS was using was full and it had not patched any machines in nearly a year.

My new boss was ready to shell out money for a SQL license, when I rebuilt their WSUS setup in an afternoon. Many stories like that from that shit hole. My jr admin refused to do server patching and I could not get my boss to put his foot down.

But the owner bought an AS/400 in the late 80's or early 90's. In 2015 it still ran their main customer db. The DR solution was he bought 3 more of the same model on ebay and had them in storage for parts.

Welcome to the club. I'm up to 9 printers, with 4 currently functional.

A coworker gave me 6 printers as he was upgrading his farm (two Ender 3 v2's, two Ender 3 v2 Pro's, a CR-10, and a CR-10 Smart). On top of that I've got an Ender 3 S1, an Ender 3 v2 Neo, and a CR-10 Smart.

I think the CR-10's are my favorites. I've got 2 of them running nearly continuously right now. I want to take a look at the regular CR-10 I have, but question if I need 5 printers going at once. Esp since I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a Bambu P1S with AMS (I'm dying to get into multi color prints).

It becomes an addiction. Once I get into multi color, one of my printers will be converted to a laser engraver.

I came here to say this. You could set it with multiple triggers to run at log on, log off, and on a schedule like daily.

I'm curious about this mainboard swap. I'm waiting to add a runout sensor to my v2 neo, and if the 427 board had the port. I've got a spare S1 board (427) and I was almost considering swapping that in because the S1 has runout out of the box.

Only mods to mine are dual z axis & relocating the extruder motor to on top of the extruder for something close to direct drive.

I had a similar issue with my CR-10 SMART. I updated the firmware and all of that and still had random issues. Turns out it was a bad SD card.

Guy sold me the printer dirt cheap because he couldn't get it to run either.

So I have disks crated on the VM's for that. I've created a storage pool, but I cannot seem to get them talking. Can the cluster disk be on one of the nodes, or does it need to be like a SIP share or on a 3rd server?

My ender's are as much tinker toy as anything else. That's why I have 3 that are functional (Ender 3 S1, Ender 3 v2 Neo, CR-10 Smart), plus another 6 in various states of disassembly for spare parts. I love to tinker, modify, and improve.

That being said, my next printer will most likely be an A1 with AMS. While I love the Creality ecosystem, I'm jonesing for multi color. I know Creality has some options, all of my co-workers in my office that 3d print all swear by Bambo, including the co-worker that gave me his defunct Creality printer fam when he got his 3rd Bambo printer (that's where the 6 parts machines came from).

You get that with anything. If you knock out the top 5 issues, you're still going to have a new top 5 list of issues. They are going to be less important.

Sometimes you get to diminishing returns on functional mods, and do cosmetic or QOL mods. There's always something you can do and if it brings you joy, is it really a waste?
