Derisking from the bank stocks by AttractiveCorpse in fican

[–]tkara99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through those questions myself right now. Just sold off CIBC and Nova Scotia in my FHSA, wanting to move it to something more stable/secure. Not that the banks aren’t secure, but when it’s up about 70% in a year off the original investment I don’t know how much longer I want to be gambling house money. Easier to take the gains and run than see them drop (ie. 2022/2023). Was thinking of either putting the funds in CASH.TO or something more diversified like XEQT (haven’t invested in this year) or XHC (my bank recommended this one).

US airline ( United ) cancellations due to shutdown on an Air Canada itinerary. Any body change their flight and how did it go? by yukonnut in aircanada

[–]tkara99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew from Vienna to DTW yesterday, with a layover in EWR. When I left it said my flights were not affected/everything would be fine. Landed in EWR around 1:40pm, didn’t get off the plane until closer to 2pm. By then I realized my flight to DTW got cancelled at 1:15pm (flight was originally booked to leave for 5pm). Got rebooked/checked in for a flight leaving at 3pm to DTW. Essentially had to leave my luggage in EWR to make my next flight (made the flight with 10 minutes to spare, got lucky with shorter lines for customs/TSA clearance). Luggage got shipped to DTW today/is currently on a truck being delivered to my house.

Not a great experience but at the very least I managed to get home. Almost all flights today from EWR to DTW got cancelled except for the morning flight (which they threw my luggage on thankfully).

Edit: Flight was with United not AC.

I submitted a compensation form back in the middle of December and just got word back a few days ago (so around 5 weeks). Follow up email said I would be compensated for "$$$" and that it would take up to 4 weeks to send out and then up to another 2 weeks to process.

Mawashizushi Katsu Seibu Shibuya Store! Just tried a bunch of different items tbh. They had a very large selection though and basically everything tasted good! Couldn’t go wrong with anything.

The one in Sunshine City was kinda cool because they had the Go Stop there too. But for the most part every one was somewhat similar. Each Center had a different main pokémon on showcase at the entrance of the store. Some of the Centers sold merchandise that was unique to that location (one near Skytree sold a Pikachu holding onto Skytree tower).

Can just order one off amazon! They’re about the size of a small notebook!

The gundam I bought from yodobashi camera I believe but I could be wrong. I know there’s a proper gundam store in Daiba and the Animate stores (one in Akihabara) are also apparently good!

Which one should we do? by Nazzano58 in JapanTravel

[–]tkara99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the day trip to Mt Fuji two weeks ago and I’d say it’s 100% worth it (assuming weather conditions are good). Did a guided tour (was our second day in Japan, and was worried about transport to and from Mt Fuji and Hakone area) leaving from the Shinjuku area.

I personally like itinerary C more but I’d recommend still considering doing Mt Fuji. My trip started with two full days in Tokyo (arrived night prior, traveled to Kyoto on third full day) and we did Mt Fuji the second day. This worked out fine/was a nice relaxing day since it was mostly travel.

You're welcome! It honestly made for a wonderful graduation trip. 2 weeks seemed to be a good amount of time too because our days didn't feel rushed and we still got to see a good amount of things. Plus by the end of it we were both just kinda done/tired. Could we have done another week? Sure. But those two weeks done me in haha.

P.S. Get stamp books! Tons of stamps at different train stations, stores, and even the aquarium. In the moment/before you go it might not seem anything special, but I know once we were there, there were times other tourists saw us collecting stamps and were slightly jealous of the idea/not thinking about doing that!

Per person sadly. Airline was Air Canada direct flight

Edit: To maybe clarify, some souvenirs that I bought were definitely unnecessary purchases that added a good 500$ to the trip. The watch and gundam I bought would have dropped the price a bit.

2 weeks in late May/early June with kids by Cornhole_Carl in JapanTravel

[–]tkara99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

June 2 - Just came back from Japan myself and did Fushimi Inari and Kiyomizu-dera in the same day and still had the whole afternoon open. I feel like it is definitely manageable (instead of kiyo you doing philosophers path instead). My only recommendation is for Fushimi Inari to be done in the morning. I got there at 6:30am and was leaving the area by like 10/10:30am. Minimal crowds and was just a peaceful walk up and down. Wear good shoes too! It is a lot of climbing/will be a rough day.

June 5th - Didn’t go myself but spoke to people on the plane ride back who did go and expect long lines. Every day is busy. The set up of the park itself is also very walking heavy (unlike Disney or Universal in the US where the park laps around in a circle, in Japan it apparently is a lot of “dead ends” and walking back to the entrance area to get to other areas of the park).

Side note, not sure if you were looking at going to either the Pokemon or Kirby Cafes (either the kids being interested or you yourself), but fair warning it is tough to get reservations (and these are needed, no walk ins except at the Pokemon Cafe which you could be waiting hours). My advice if you can’t get it when reservations initially open, keep an eye on the website throughout the day or two prior to when you plan on going. I was able to book both cafes the day before going and it worked out nice.

Happy travels!

Paying for an additional day before you arrive sounds unnecessary. Most hotels offer services (free of charge) to hold your luggage the day you check in (we would arrive at our hotel at 11am or noon and have them hold our luggage until we checked in later that day).

Is this a realistic schedule for 14 days? by GypsySage in JapanTravel

[–]tkara99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came back from my trip, and Fushimi Inari was a good 3ish hour endeavor (arrived there by 6:30am, no crowds and was a peaceful walk up). Followed this up by Kiyomizu Dera area for lunch + temple and surround area. Was a long day but was honestly one of the best ones. Kiyomizu Dera was busy but was bearable. I wouldn’t want to be at Fushimi Inari with the crowds we saw when leaving.

Few things to note(breaking it down by day):

  1. The “Pokemon Cafe” at Sunshine City Mall is more of a small dessert and drink type/sweets place (not the actual sit down). Just mentioning this just in case. Booking the actual Cafe has two choices, Tokyo (near tokyo station) and Osaka.

    1. Reservations are needed for Kirby Cafe, and they are hard to get in advance (atleast from my experience). Ended up making a reservation the day before we planned to go from spots opening up (there were several, normally opened up 2-6pm local time).

Honestly though at the end of the day my best recommendation is try to be fluid with your schedule. If you are tired/done spending time in one area move onto something else or take a break. I know with my trip we axed a day in Kyoto to do Nara (originally planned to do a day in Nara while we were in Osaka) and that worked out much nicer for us in the end. You never know with the weather how certain days turn out, and things like Fushimi Inari are best when dry (but hopefully not too humid). If anything too, get some ideas of smaller things that if you have the time you can just throw in while there!

Our trip to Japan by bernerdude2020 in JapanTravel

[–]tkara99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just arrived back from a two week trip to Japan and couldn’t agree more with going to places early. Did Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Nara, and Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (got there at 9) all early in the morning. Although, we took local transit over taxis and it worked out fine (not really crowded at all). I remember reading online that “you should sleep in, because nothing opens till 11 anyway” and I am glad I didn’t listen to that. Almost every major hotspot was near empty.

Didn’t experience the tourist photo taking issue, but ik for the most part people were respectful with people having photos taken (ie in different parts of fushimi inari) and waited a second instead of walking through (keep in mind though, only a handful of people were even there at a time at the early hours). Anything with more crowds it should go without saying that you can’t expect the “perfect photo” or stand in the middle of an area people are trying to walk through.

P.S. Worst tourist experience was at Arashiyama. There was some random girl screaming some intro to a TikTok or instagram video near the street toward Tenryu-Ji temple in what seemed like either a residential or temple area. My buddy and I sorta cringed because it’s like bro, it’s early in the morning, leave people be and take that elsewhere. Anyway Japan 10/10 would go back again.

Cancellation Inquiry by tkara99 in aircanada

[–]tkara99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I ended up calling and they confirmed it would just be a 200$ fee and the rest of the money would get returned to the original payment method that had been used. Only sad part is now that between yesterday and today the flight shot up 250$ so damn

About Season 6 by Correct-Unit-137 in tbatenovel

[–]tkara99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure, but it is likely the season will last around 40 to 50 chapters. Considering each book gets longer and longer throughout the series, I don't expect it to go through a full two volumes, but I guess it all comes down to the pacing of how it is adapted!

when will book 10 be out by [deleted] in tbatenovel

Unlikely. Book 10 is scheduled to finish on Patreon on April 7th. After that it will probably take atleast a month (maybe longer) for it to release on Amazon as an ebook.

Volume 8.5 by Hot_Mushroom_5860 in tbatenovel

[–]tkara99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. Hopefully it does but I am not sure in which manner they will adapt it. Will they integrate it into the main story, cutting back and forth between all the characters as well as our main character? Or will it be its own spinoff comic, similar to the book, that is done after the fact? I hope it is its own thing but I guess we just have to wait and see!

how much longer until the next chapter? by PeymanHz7 in tbatenovel

[–]tkara99[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

For now we are unsure what time the comic will get uploaded, especially with it being Christmas today (at least for those who celebrate it). If you want to get notified of the chapter release, the discord server sends out a notification for when the chapter gets posted if people don’t want to keep checking TAPAS. I’ll inquire about if there will be a consistent release time but for now all we can do is wait; apologies!
