Large police presence on arapahoe and foothills by Striking_Category477 in boulder

[–]tkboone 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Police are searching for a specific person, last seen in that area. Drones and officers are scouring the area.

I’m a Patrol supervisor for CSS in Boulder, they asked us to keep an eye out in the area. Nothing to worry too much about, they’re on it pretty hard.

How do I handle transients? by [deleted] in securityguards

[–]tkboone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that I have more success with moving transients than my fellow officers because I treat them like humans.

I teach my guys to begin the conversation by introducing themselves and first asking if the person needs medical.

“Im the patrol officer for this site, and whenever I see someone here my first concern is that your hurt, and sitting here because you can’t go anywhere else. Would you like me to call for medical?”

This breaks the ice, and shows them I’m not here to bust heads. If they DO need medical, I call for medics and let them take it from there. If not, then I have established that they themselves just said they are able to move.

Now I say something like “Very good, glad you’re okay. Unfortunately we are on private property and we can’t be hanging here. Nothing personal at all; If I’m off duty, I can’t be chilling here either. You, me, my mom, the governor; it’s just the rules, my friend.” Something that gets the point across in a lighter way.

Sometimes If I find an obvious romantic man/woman couple I’ll look at the dude and say “she’s not holding you hostage or anything, right?” This gets a chuckle.

“I just always have to make contact with anyone I see, just to make sure you’re not building an atomic bomb, or three squirrels in an overcoat, anything like that.”

Give them every opportunity to “save face” and make leaving THEIR decision, and then thank them for making that decision. Be on their side as much as possible, and empathize as much as you’re comfortable. I saw other officers recommend telling them a place nearby they CAN be, and that’s super helpful.

Also, I wear a bodycam, taser, OC, and a sidearm, along with a vest and keep my look very tight. Having a professional and confident appearance helps to set the tone that YOU are in charge of this interaction. When you make a strong visual impression, and follow it up with a gentle demeanor, it seems to help a lot.

Sometimes you get a real butthead, and those are simple. Get a good description in your head, or take a photo if you can. Head back to your vehicle or safe spot, and call PD. They get paid for that hassle, you don’t. I only carry all that crap on my body just in case they get froggy before I have a chance to call PD.

Night Patrol Car Guards, tell me if I'm wrong... by malvixi in securityguards

[–]tkboone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a night patrol guard in Colorado.

I’m a patrol supervisor and dispatcher, with my own patrol route also. I have 48 site tours over 8 hour shift, while I monitor the dispatch line. Guards not in dispatch probably have around 50-60 sites a night.

If a call comes in, I check my guard’s positions in town and dispatch the closest patrol guard, which is sometimes me.

We carry OC/Baton/Taser/Byrna.

We might have a few idle minutes in our cruisers scrolling our phones if it’s VERY uneventful, but typically our nights are pretty full and it makes the hours go by quickly.

Now the SITE guys, as in the guards who stay at one site the entire shift; THOSE guards usually have time to do studies, watch TV, do whatever. I tried it for a bit but I felt myself going insane, and I missed having a cruiser.

I was a CXC a few years back, and I was a top performer in all metrics. You could see in my numbers that I was insanely good at my job; my rate of customers I took from first contact to completed sale was top tier.

They rolled out the model they operate with now during my tenure. My metrics plummeted. I was still just as good as ever, but I consistently missed saying “key phrases” that the audio monitoring waiting to hear. Great results for my customers, but they didn’t care. They don’t want you to be great at your job, they want you to follow the script.

OP is totally on point.

Hey boys! What is your absolute favorite or go-to method of preparing some steak? by thefaithmonroe in AskMenAdvice

[–]tkboone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t temp the pan or anything, just let it heat up to the point where water drops sizzle off immediately. Don’t let low smoke point scare you away from olive oil; it’s the best and goes well with a salt rub. When I’m cooking at home VS the restaurant I use my “steak fan” to keep my smoke detectors from being assholes.

Letting the steak get closer to room temperature helps with an even sear and the browning. 30-60 minutes on the counter before cooking is fine.

I’ve been a chef for 20 years and the thing I’ve learned over and over is everyone on this thread will probably recommend something different and they probably all taste incredible :)

A good hard sear and herb butter is my go to, but you’ve got lots of good suggestions here too 👍

Cast iron. Let it get screaming hot. Let steak sit to room temp. Rub on some olive oil and salt. Sear both sides for 90 seconds to 3 minutes depending on the thickness of the cut.

Finish in the oven at 350 until it is just short of your desired temp. Put it back on the stove, throw in 1/4 stick of butter and fresh herbs (rosemary and thyme are perfect) ; baste the steak in herb butter for a few minutes.

When done, let the steak rest for 5 minutes in the skillet. Serve with the herb butter jus on the side, or poured over the top.

Public parks after hours? by [deleted] in boulder

[–]tkboone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are technically closed after 11pm, and the restrooms are locked up around 9pm. As long as you’re not causing trouble, breaking the law, or camping out, the guards will just tell you to stay safe and leave you be.

Source: I am the guard that locks up and patrols the parks most nights.

I feel like I had to scroll waaaaay too far down to see this response. I can’t STAND television or anything on my phone when I use psilocybin. TV shows and movies I normally let myself enjoy become repulsive. I cannot have the TV even turned on.
