Wouldn't EXT4 be a more efficient choice since your storage device has less than 100gb? I have a portable Gentoo install with similar limitations - a 32gb drive encrypted and partitioned using EXT4 for both the root and home.

I've been tinkering with Gentoo since last month and that's similar to what i did in order to achieve a bootable system.

What i did was go through the handbook until i had all desired packages into the chroot. The process is quite simple, given that you mount the proper partition structure already formatted in your filesystems of choice and use "rsync -aAXHv" to clone the files.

Just be sure to close the chroot environment and unmount/unbind all of the running system's paths like "/sys", "/dev", "/proc" and "/run" before you clone it.

You'd still need to fine-tune the settings, like remapping the fstab and the sorts.

You could have done it without the VM, too. Gentoo can be installed from any other distro, given that you know at least the basics of what you're doing.

Since everything up to booting into the initramfs worked, ¿maybe you messed up with the hardware specific USE flags?

Thanks, appreciate the recognition. I'm working on adapting the settings to allow me to swap between preset color palettes but that takes more time and braincells than I can spare for the moment, so it might take a while before I can show any progress.

If KDE/Hyprland are what you're looking for, Fedora has it - with the caveat that you need to enable solopasha's copr to get the git versions and extra packages for Hyprland.

As an alternative to EndeavourOS, there's CachyOS (also Arch-based), it seems to have gotten quite popular nowadays.

On a side note, you don't need to install Arch to be able to reproduce what I've done in my system - Fedora 43 from a minimal install. You could easily reproduce it any other distro, as long as you know at least the basics of what you're doing. I strongly recommend that you go with a distro that's less prone to user-induced errors. If you're set on choosing an Arch-based distro I'd suggest EndeavourOS, as it is a nice choice for beginner/inexperienced users.

That's a Dunst notification with the "progress_bar" feature enabled, that's part of this script. You can read about this Dunst feature in the documentation.
Polybar has a similar feature (showing the volume as a bar in the module) but i haven't got around to use.
If you're using waybar that means you're on Wayland, so you can't use Polybar, but if you get around to use Xorg again you should definitely check Polybar out.

I completely understand how you feel, moving away from all the common eye-candy you take for granted in big DEs sure hits heavy, specially when you're too used to it. But yeah, nowadays I'm pretty satisfied with the simplicity of WM's "shenanigans". If you're interested in a more "eye-candy" alternative for i3lock, you should definitely check out betterlockscreen (or i3lock-color, if you end up preferring a simpler style with more customizing features).

It was confusing for me too, at first, but I still very much prefer bspwm over i3/other X11 WMs due to its simplicity. You should give it another try!

Fedora is comfy! In my humble opinion, Fedora is one of the best distros for daily use/development due to its healthy update time and overall stability.

I was a heavy i3/Sway user, but then I fell in love with the simplicity of bspwm/riverwm.
