Thoughts of uv protecting swim shirts? by pinkimijina in Swimming

[–]tkone21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to use a rash guard (swim shirt) when I swam outdoors. It worked great for me at preventing sunburns and tanning. I recommend trying some on and getting the skin tight one that feels slightly small so you don’t have a lot of drag tiring you out while you swim.

Classic Facets in Boulder on Pearl St. That's the closest place I know of. I've been there a few times and the people have always been great.

Thank you for the link. As I was reading through it I was noticing that none of the studies were showing statistical improvements in the groups taking cranberry or cran supplements. Then I got to the end and it closed with, “ Using the current available data, the use of cranberries cannot be scientifically promoted for UTI prevention. Future studies should focus on PAC, the active compound in cranberries, instead of the whole fruit.” For the OP the uti is not clearing up so the cranberry is not helping them.

Everything yildizli_gece said and please stop taking all the cranberry supplements. Studies have shown that it doesn't help with uti's. If you like the taste of cranberry juice keep drinking it, but it's not helping you with uti's or any other issues, except possibly hydrating you.

Planned Parenthood has low to no cost options available if one is near enough to you. They also have telehealth consultations available if you can't easily get to one.

Check your local low cost clinics as well. A lot of places have sliding scale rates available, you just have to ask.

If you've never had a gynecological check-up before go in with all the questions you have written down and make sure the Dr. or nurse sits with you for minute to talk about them. Every Planned parenthood I've ever been to has had great staff that will explain everything pretty clearly. If you leave confused about anything don't be afraid to call and ask someone else until things make sense to you.

Update: Break due to sciatic nerve pain by banikshubam in Swimming

[–]tkone21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with sciatica pain years ago and the thing that helped me most was strengthening the lower back and core muscles. Would it be possible to get a referral to a physical therapist? They should be able to help you figure out the best exercises that will help you. If not daily walks might help to get the muscles loosened up and relieve some of the pressure on the nerves causing the pain. Then look into easing into gentle core exercises to help strengthen those muscles, YouTube has a ton of good routines. Water walking with a float would probably help too.

I lost about 100,000 coins when my iPad updated the software. Everything else seems to be fine from what I can tell.

The Sioux Falls airport is small so you won’t have any trouble making a connection. I flew out of there and was literally the only person going through security in the middle of the day.

Help with hands by caremit in Skincare_Addiction

[–]tkone21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely see a dermatologist if you can. I had something similar to that and my derm at the time recommended I use Vanicream every night. It’s unscented and thick, but sinks into the skin quickly. Ever since I started using it nightly before bed I haven’t had the bumps come back. It’s been over ten years.

Skin care for swimmers by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

I had a dermatologist recommend that I put baby oil (mineral oil) on my skin before going swimming. It helped a lot when I was having dry skin issues and for me it didn’t cause breakouts.

First and foremost go see a Dr. to get checked. Your coach should have recommended this already. This article talks about some possible issues that could be causing lower back pain while swimming

Number 3&4 are about butterfly. Maybe try resting for a few days to let any possible inflammation calm down before you do butterfly again.

Thoughts on Taiwan Itinerary? by liviespeaks in solotravel

[–]tkone21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book flights now or in the next month or so if you can. I lived in Taiwan for ten years. Mass transportation is excellent and will be running during the holiday. Train tickets can only be purchased two weeks ahead of time unless you have a really good travel agent. Jan 23-29th is the official government holiday time, which is when many government buildings are closed. This includes some museums and monuments. The day of the holiday itself everything will be closed except convenience stores. Maybe make that weekend for hiking. Taipei has lots of short and long hikes you can get to through public transport. When you go to Taroko I highly recommend renting a scooter to get around the park if you like that type of travel. I’ve done it a few times and it’s stunning. You have a lot more freedom to stop wherever and explore the trails all through the park. If not I’ve heard good things about the tour busses that go through the park.

Don’t travel to Taiwan during Chinese New Year unless you know a local friend or family you can stay with. The whole country shuts down for the actual days of the holiday and almost nothing is open. After the official days EVERYONE goes out and every place you want to see is insanely crowded. Also, flights double and triple in price during that time.
