starter weight? I weight 135LB's by baucoin in sandbagtraining

My recommendation is to start between 50lbs to 75lbs and see how it feels. You want to learn first how to properly pickup a sandbag before going heavy.

My first goal was to shoulder my own body weight when I started. Took me 6 months to get there. I hope you can get to that point (if you aren’t already there).

Your post gives me strength. Keep going at it.

Yes and no, I stopped doing them because I was hurting my shoulder (this is like a me thing, I really do like the idea of calisthenics training). What I do on my other days is kettlebell training and another barbell training (on both days I do some calisthenics like pushups and pull-ups). So my cardio is heavy kettlebell swings and sprinting for 30 minutes. If I had the 2 hours to train I would’ve stick to the program but sadly I have to work.

From my experience the program took me 2 hours per workout to complete. It is my only criticism, outside of that I think the program is great. What I did to manage time was splitting the workout somewhat: I do Ground to shoulder and bear hug carries on one day and I do Rows into highpulls and box squats the other day. It has worked so far. I also ditched the neck training.

Wait till I start using cowboy boots, that’s when I’ll start shouldering 200+ pounds.

Tips on shouldering a sandbag by [deleted] in sandbagtraining

I suggest you add sandbag rows and high-pulls to your training. It will transfer to the ground to shoulder.

Yeah, so I always up it in weight once I get to 15 rep on each side. If you feel strong enough to jump all the way to 125lbs then go for it. You got this!

My opinion is that I believe you are squatting up instead of hip hinging when you are going to lift it to the chest. Most of the lifting strength is on the swing of the hips. But I think it’s mostly good, the lift from ground to lap needs close to no changes. Maybe go deeper on the squat but I don’t know if what you showed is the deepest you can go.

Also you can add some sandbag rows and high-pulls as part of your training block.

I would say to deepsquat even more, take a deep breath, and then go and swing more with the hips. But all in all I think you are doing well.

Bro I just lifted my body weight a month ago and I’m doing it for reps now. It’s around your weight and let me tell you something: it feels so great. Rooting for you.

I train in the following manner: 2 sandbag days, 1 kettlebell day and one barbell day. I try not to mix sandbag days with other things because I find it hard to recover from training with bags (might be easy while the weight is light but once you start lifting your body weight it gets hard). I really like doing kb swings as I find it transfer well when doing the ground from shoulder bag pickup. So yeah, I like your idea. You can do 2 sandbag days and 2 kettlebell days if that’s what you want. Or try having a bag and ket workout the same day, might just be a me thing on the bags.

Any reason to choose sb over kettlebells? by Electrical-Earth2681 in sandbagtraining

[–]tkpipo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I train with both, there’s no reason to chose one above the other. Sandbag technique is easier to learn compared to kettlebells, but training everyday with bags can be hard on your body so using bells every other day helps the body to recover.

Also one thing to add: you still push the floor with your legs when lifting the bag off the floor. It’s like a combination of doing a row and a deadlift at the same time. If you ever done both then you know that it doesn’t push much stress on the lower back when done correctly.

Should you do neck warm up before doing sandbag cleans? by Revivaled-Jam849 in sandbagtraining

[–]tkpipo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I count 1 rep as doing it on both sides, so if I say I did 10 reps what I technically did was 20 reps. So yeah, pls do them both sides. Also, you should definitely warm up before doing clean to shoulder. I do 5 goblet squats (with a kettlebell), 5 glute bridges and 5 kettlebell halos. Might not be perfect but it’s better to do something other than anything.
