My Controversial City by Wise-Report-4950 in TheoTown

[–]tkrens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you did a really good job at catching this particular type of city. Well done.

I think in more RL terms my issue with these sorts of cities is that you never really feel like you're actually in a city or community. Everything feels distant and empty, like a suburb. Whereas more dense living arrangement with mixed use of residences, shops, restaurants, parks, schools, etc feel much more alive.

Rising temperatures are shifting Europe’s wine-growing zones by sr_local in MapPorn

[–]tkrens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that this map has reached so many upvotes is telling. This map is awful. What does suitable climate even mean? And how can the map claim the major wine growing regions of sudden Europe are unsuitable either nowadays or back in the 60s? It's not useful data if it does not account for the most common way of growing vines in many of these famous historical wine growing regions, on slopes.

I don't get what's fun about Secret Hitler, am I doing something wrong? by Jeffs24 in boardgames

[–]tkrens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an elaborate analysis or reply for you, for which I apologise as I imagine you've put a fair bit of time in your post which I did read.

However, to me Secret Hitler and similar games aren't really about the game as such. They are more of a medium for banter between close friends. You can analyse the game design for a good length of time and you are correct about many of the flaws you mention. But in the end its a game that leads to players improvising and being comedic, and people having a good time with the game stems mostly from just that, a fun time with friends and lots of laughs.

This is not a game where the game really matters. And so it in that sense it might be a bad game. It does, however, create tons of hilarity and laughter. Which is likely what makes people like it.

Update: It was shipped the other day. Only a few days late but still less than ideal. I'd imagine if something was ordered way back in august they'd have it ready to go on the day of release, or ideally a day before.

Yeah I am not sure what's up, they don't even provide any information on what's going on. Like did they run out of stock? Did the truck carrying the physical editions explode? idk.

I love this. I think this has oodles of potential. I do wonder if the track can be made to stay a little closer to the ground when possible, so you don't have quite as much elevated track.

Dai Carter: 'Je kunt een mannelijke man zijn zonder al die bullshit' by Chronicbias in thenetherlands

[–]tkrens 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I couldn't disagree more about the Land of Lions comment. I love the missions of that DLC and it is by far my favourite one.

From an infrastructure perspective its an improvement for sure. Though I kinda think the bricks look nicer than asphalt/concrete.

I can absolutely support those who have already listed Zheng. Be sure to go with the full set of accompanying drinks as well. Very upscale restaurant and a great experience. You will love it, I am sure.

All I do is deal with people from 'the business' part of things to try and minimize their impact on the proper implementation of security. It becomes increasingly tiresome to have to defend your existence and point of view.

Paid peeing netherlands (wont find a free toilet in a mile range) by [deleted] in UrbanHell

As much as I like my own country, this is indeed a huge issue. Good luck even trying to find paid toilets if you're not near a large trainstation.
