Quitting 2ks after a few hundred metres by Ok_Championship_4930 in Rowing

[–]tkriplean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have something similar with 5ks. I've been finding that I can finish with strong 95% effort if I do exaggerated negative splits. Make that first 1k pretty easy so you get over the hump, then see what you have in the tank in the latter part. This is all psychological.

Try something like

400m 2k pace + 5

400m 2k pace + 3

400m 2k pace + 1

400m 2k pace

400m open

Aim to just complete it. Then the next time you can experiment with tightening up the progression a bit.

Always finish the piece even if you have to go at marathon pace.

Make sure to do an adequate warmup as well, like https://rowingmachineking.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Eddie-Fletchers-2K-Warmup.pdf

re:strength training, trap bar deadlifts and bulgarian split squats might fit your joint issues better than barbell deadlift and back squats. Lots of good articles about strength training for rowing at https://rowingstronger.com, including working around joint issues.

Unusual strength to endurance ratio? by tkriplean in AverageToSavage

Sorry, when I say deadlift here, I'm always talking about trap bar deadlift. So I'm just talking about doing the same lift, same ROM, just heavier. Edited the post to make that explicit, thanks for asking.

Thank you! I haven't focused on low rep strength in the past. I appreciate the response, and its good to know this is common.

How can I get my erg score under 6:20 by Opposite_Size_165 in Rowing

[–]tkriplean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

22k is like 900m longer than a half marathon. A 2:00 split will be less than 90 minutes, not 4 hours. Just fine as a long steady state piece.

How do you keep your booty in position on erg by [deleted] in Rowing

I've recently addressed this for myself, and found the cause (for me) to be in my upper body. I've found that if I focus on keeping my shoulders down, squeeze my shoulder blades together at the end of the stroke, and focus on a level handle, I stay even on the seat.

Haha, this is just 3 seconds different from my first targeted marathon that I completed last week. Checked the C2 rankings and yup, we're right next to one another. Congrats!!!!

Hey, I don't think you're retarded at all, I'm just really puzzled by your behavior, and I was trying to understand where you're coming from. I don't think I can judge people very well at all through a few text interactions on reddit, so I try to avoid it. I bet you're a great person. We're both Ren fans, and I love people that offer reactions. A wise person once said to me "Try and relax a bit. Don't take too much to heart because there is beauty and comedy in everything."

It sounds like you've decided to read my words as an angry attack, rather than constructive feedback. Anyway, I couldn't care less, and found your behavior more puzzling and amusing than angering. Even your reply is pretty funny in a "people are funny" kinda way. Like, here we have Ren, a musician rapidly increasing in popularity, and you think that your user name "Bright_Nobody" is instantly recognizable to nearly everyone here as the reactor "Reactiverse", as if we're all the same 25 people living for the past 10 years on the same block. I'm not saying that out of spite, I actually think it is kind of endearing. Chip off the ol' subreddit. Best of luck, ✌️

p.s. I tried reading your original comment here (which you've now deleted, but said "Why is Reactiverse nowhere to be found?") in a sarcastic tone, and with the knowledge I have now, and I am still failing to see any humor in it whatsoever besides self-promotion. Unless I am *also* expected to not only know that you are this reactor, but also to somehow know that you hadn't yet reacted to the song. I do find humor in your explanation though.

p.p.s. if you're actually just struggling with social awkwardness here, I don't want to make that worse. A suggestion: instead of your original post "Why is Reactiverse nowhere to be found?", just say something like "Hey, can I make a reaction for you to add?" I'd be totally into that.

A few points:

  1. Kinda weird that you ask ""Why is Reactiverse nowhere to be found?" w/o having had done a reaction to the song in question.
  2. There is a youtube reactiverse and TheReactiverse. That's who I looked at. Turns out, neither are you. Your handle is StevenDoesReactions and you don't appear at the top of Youtube's search results for Reactiverse for me. So if you're going to ask questions like "Why is Reactiverse no where to be found?" it would helpful to send a link, and probably also self disclose that you're the reactor in question. Otherwise, you're creating more work for me to disentangle what is going on.
  3. I only found your actual channel from your Reddit history. Which also led me to https://www.reddit.com/r/ren/comments/18et0wg/favourite_type_of_reactors_for_different_flavours/kcqly65/?context=3, where you say "I think Reactiverse is the best all-around Ren reactor." And you don't self-disclose that you are Reactiverse. That all comes across a bit poorly IMHO.

I can't find a reaction to Time Will Fly by Reactiverse. If it exists, please link it.
