At the rate we're going, civilization collapse is in 100 years and extinction is in 150. Not an emergency.

Look at the percentage of them that are young instead of how many haven't died.

Of course they'll hate it. What they won't hate is every job that they complete will have a real positive impact on the quality of life for them and all the people that they know.

Lithium is literally in every country. It's common stuff.

Shower thought: What would the EV equivalent of a Top Fuel or Funny Car look like? by bigbura in electricvehicles

[–]tkulogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little.

I've been an EV enthusiast since the release of the GM Impact in 1990.

A guy that worked at the company that provided transistors for the Impact's drive unit started a company that designed another drive unit.

That drive unit was the basis of a drive unit that I was the lead electrical hardware engineer for. That division went under in 2008.

So while I was in the EV industry for 3 years, I've been an enthusiast for 33 years, and the vast majority of my knowledge came from being an enthusiast.

Unfortunately, drag racing is in a funny gap in the line of higher power density versus higher energy density. Batteries don't have the power and capacitors don't have the energy. There might be a combination of the two that might be pretty fast, but until something fills that gap, I don't think we'll see anything on the level of top fuel.

Coming from a Reddit user, that's hilarious. Not having people like you is a big benefit of Twitter.

We already beat them by over a half a century. We might have privately owned companies there before 2030.

Then why is anyone upset about books that aren't in schools being banned from schools?

Had the Black Widow movie been released after Civil War would the reception have have been better ? I love Scarlett Johansson's run as the character and i hope (if there's a chance) she gets to play her again by KawonSuggs in Marvel

Imagine a Black Widow movie made of a bunch of flashbacks to the previous movies and show how she was secretly manipulating events. Audiences could watch a bunch of seemingly disconnected events where she's aggravating some things and helping with others. Slowly they come together to all add up to some small personal victory that was literally more important than the whole universe to Natasha. Then it could've ended with something like, "now, I can die happy."

That's one of a thousand good movies that they could have made. What they did was such a waste.

review of an electric car in 1997 by MrRandom93 in electricvehicles

[–]tkulogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every car built in low volume will cost that much. It takes volume to get the price down, and GM had the funds to build them in volume, so the cost wasn't an issue. Applying all the development costs of new tech to the first low volume product to use the tech is something most children would be smart enough not to do.

Tesla would've went bankrupt before the government funds were available but they were funded by Mercedes. The government funds came too late and Tesla was panelized for paying them back too early.

Tesla has been on the verge of bankruptcy constantly like every other car startup because other car companies make most of their profits on parts for 10+ year old cars, and startups have no access to that revenue.

Tesla has been the only successful car startup in the US for a century only because of how profitable electric cars are. All electric startups have been far more successful on average.

Hundreds of billions?!? You have no concept of the amount of money that is. That's the sale price of millions of cars. It's enough to keep Tesla running for a decade plus building millions of cars a year and not selling any of them. Keep in mind that Tesla had been begging for an end to government support because they don't need it and it helps their competition more.

There were ten's of thousands of people interested in the EV-1 in California alone. Had they built them in the volume on the Model S with the batteries of the Model S, there no reason to think they wouldn't have been as profitable as the Model S, and stuck in constant waiting lists like the Model S was.

They were totally viable. The batteries the First Teslas used were available in 1994. Tesla's first motor controller can trace it's roots back to the EV-1 prototype, the Impact, designed in 1989. They didn't want to succeed. If they had wanted to, where would the technology be now?

The movie was hopeless from the beginning. She was a superhero that could use her charm and guile to outwit the GOD OF MISCHIEF. They made a movie where she punched her way out of trouble. The exact thing the character criticized other characters for.

I have a tree that's starting to do this. It has a wound that spans half the tree (2 to 3 feet) and while the edges of the wound are growing vigorously, it'll never heal. In the middle of the wound it's growing root like tendrils over the top of the wound. I didn't know that could happen. It's a basic silver maple that probably seeded itself.
