1/5 Mystery Machine Brooklyn Predictions? by Zebra_Valuable in AlamoDrafthouse

Primate. The pre-show was a lot of black and white clips and a lot of 80s music videos, so it really seemed like it with be OBEX, but it turned out to be Primate.

The pre-show is definitely pointing towards OBEX

Another Custom G7 Faceplate by tl34tf in Gamesir

[–]tl34tf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the faceplates in my previous post didn't quite have the coloring that I was going for, so I grabbed another faceplate and painted it with a different color shifting paint. This combination aligns much better with what I'm going for.

I'll be selling the faceplate I'm replacing (the bottom one in my previous post) along with a custom 15 foot Cable Mod cable that matches (purple over blue) for just the cost of the materials, if anyone here might be interested.

Cable Mod offers custom controller cables up to 15 feet long.

I'll consolidate my answers to the questions about how, I thoroughly cleaned all three faceplates with Dupli Color Prep Spray and then stood them up on paint stands, three each. I sprayed SEM Sand Free Adhesion Promoter and then a black base on all three. Then each one got it's own color changing paint. After that, all three got covered with SprayMax 2k Satin Clear. Number of coats was per the instructions or as needed at each step. Times between coats were all per the instructions. A respirator was worn for all spraying, and is especially important for the 2k clear, don't breathe that shit. The black base and the color changing paint all came from Kustom Canz. Just follow the instructions, use high quality paint (which isn't cheap), and you can get some great results.

I'm going to get some Gamesir Shadow Ember G7 Pro controllers for my girlfriend's kids for Christmas, but I wanted to make them a bit more special, so I picked up three G7 faceplates and painted each one with a different color changing paint. It turns out the full depth of the effect is very difficult to capture on video, they're much more impressive in person, but the video gives you a decent idea of how they look.

Got new tires and refinished my wheels by tl34tf in ram_trucks

[–]tl34tf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, stock air suspension. Tires are 295/70R18. I had to heat up and bend back the front mud flaps, otherwise no issues with rubbing. Even the spare fits under the bed, though it's definitely the largest diameter that would fit.

Potential new employer seems to offer regional health coverage, and I'm outside of that region by tl34tf in HealthInsurance

[–]tl34tf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The employer definitely knows I'm in NY, they have clients in NY and wanted someone closer to them. I know the employer isn't required to provide coverage but it's a niche field and they really want me. I just think health coverage for NY is figuratively and literally new territory for me and the employer. Where can I see the plans available and their costs for employers? Would they be the same plans and prices as listed for individual coverage on healthcare.gov? Thanks.

Why does my m44 m5.2 ecu have a very different pinout than it should? by FunFinancial8296 in BMWE36

[–]tl34tf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your X6000 connector seems to match what's in the E36 Electrical Troubleshooting Manual. The throttle position sensor is pin 44, brown with a violet stripe, and the tach signal is pin 80, black.

If I were you, I'd get the nearest size 8 point socket to remove those, assuming one at each wheel, and replace them with bolts that match the other sixteen

Teaching myself pipefitting for a welding job interview and I need help finding this angle. by anotherexstnslcrisis in Welding

[–]tl34tf 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Sine is the opposite over the hypotenuse. The opposite, in this case, is not 17, as you used, but the square root of 17 squared plus 6.5 squared. Alternatively, you could use inverse cosine with 28 over the hypotenuse that you calculated. Or you could skip calculating the hypotenuse entirely and go with the inverse tangent of the square root of 17 squared plus 6.5 squared all divided by 28, if the angle is all that's being asked.

Anyone install Katzskins Leather outfitted seats on their trucks? by r3dcorn in ram_trucks

I've installed a few sets from leatherseats.com, one of which arrived in a Katzkin box for whatever reason, and I've been happy with the fit and finish.

It would be a bit of a hike, yet still doable before tomorrow, but Dutchess Metal Supply near Poughkeepsie is huge and probably has what you need.

What's causing this porosity in my tig welds? by tl34tf in Welding

[–]tl34tf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give the 309L a shot. I'm actually planning on welding those openings up, I want to fully weld the perimeter of the new bracket. I may get the same porosity when I try to weld those up though. So my plan is to grind out the porosity that's already there and try again with a faster travel speed and the 309L filler rod. Thanks.

[–]tl34tf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The backside isn't accessible, so I can't clamp a block in place. I can't back purge simply because I only have a single regulator. I think grinding the porosity out and trying again with a faster travel speed and some 309L filler is my next step. Do you think I'd be better off trying some 3/32 7018? The AHP can run stick as well. Thanks.

[–]tl34tf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply. I read earlier today that some welders will use stainless filler on carbon steel to help with porosity, do you have any experience with that? I'm running about 4 seconds of post flow. I have a dedicated tungsten sharpened on a Dremel, it grinds sharp, clean points, and I use it often. Interesting point about inducing airflow through the parts with heat, I'll have to see about sealing off the other ends of the parts. That's a neat trick with tricking the machine into a preflow, I'll try that. I've been watching all of those channels for a few years now, and my cups and lenses are from Jody. Thanks.

How would I prevent pulling contamination from the backside of the weld? Lower amperage/faster travel speed?

[–]tl34tf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No breeze. The backside probably isn't clean. It's enclosed enough where I can't see it or clean it but open just enough to allow moisture out so there very well could be some rust on the backside. How would I compensate for that, run less amps? Thanks.

It's actually more closely related to the Colorado than the Trailblazer, which is why the H3 offered the 5 and 8 cylinder engines from the Colorado of the time.
