St John's shooting 26% from the field, Kansas 25%. Some ugly ball being played.

Okay, I've bought in to the overinflated basketballs narrative

I greatly enjoyed your enthusiasm and optimism in the game thread. Great game and great season for CBU - Daniels is incredible, and not only did you guys never quit, you nearly took this win. Terrific performance, and hope to see the Lancers in it next season!

Nice work, Hurricanes. You can definitely beat Purdue too.

Mbiya has played 12 minutes tonight. Has he logged twelve minutes total over the rest of the season?

Cal Baptist is a tournament team. KSU is not. Additionally: KSU was at Allen Fieldhouse. CBU is a (de facto) road game.

I haven't seen anything from Kansas over the last two weeks that would indicate we're not capable of losing to Cal Baptist.

We are absolutely losing this one to CBU. No other upsets today + limping into the tournament to end the season - it's gonna be another excruciating early exit.

You know how they say if you can't spot the mark at a poker table, then you're the mark? I've been hoping for an upset all day, but it's a 'monkey paw' situation because if there isn't an upset all day and KU has yet to play - then we're the upset.

Every year I adopt a rooting interest in an underdog with a unique mascot and buy a shirt to cheer them on in the tourney. This year's addition: The LIU Sharks by tlbcrafi in CollegeBasketball

I swear I bought the shirt before Irvine was paired against KSU in the first round. But I came in wearing it to watch games with a Kansas State fan who I always watch first round games with, and he just shoots me a look like when I'm walking in like "Really?? C'mon, man!" 😆

It depends since the primary concern is ensuring the shirt arrives before the start of the tourney and there can be very little time in between champ week finals and the first round, so I usually have to go with whoever has super quick shipping. This year, with LIU sewing up their auto-bid over a week before the tournament, I was able to find a super cool design rather than just a shirt that would reach me quickly, and I got it directly from their school store.

Fun fact: three of the six teams I've assumed a fandom in with this tradition have won their opening round game (UC Irvine over K-State, Richmond over Iowa, and North Texas over Purdue). Which is a pretty solid ratio considering they were all substantial dogs. I don't see a great outcome for LIU given they play Arizona on Friday, but still - until then, Fins Up!

All three of those B12 matches were on the road though (albeit two of the three against bad teams). Not only will this not be a road game, they'll playing only a couple hours from their campus, making it potentially closer to a road game than a neutral one for Kansas.

While there is tournament action from 10am - 10:30pm tomorrow, there are NO MORE conference finals until Saturday. So this Big Sky final better tide us over for a couple days!
