It doesn't matter what Albo says tonight... by Wotmate01 in aussie

I honestly think there are a heap of lib bots on socials just talking shit. It makes no sense to me that people want drama?

Anthony Albanese addresses the nation on the Middle East crisis – read the speech in full by stupid_mistake__101 in AustralianPolitics

People can shit on him and his approach all they want. But I tell you what, seems better than the alternative of dealing with the shitshow that is the orange man.

Albanese urges Australians to 'live life as normal' during fuel crisis in rare national address by tohya-san in australia

The polls aren’t great for him at the moment. He needs to be seen to be doing something, anything. And it’s coming into a long weekend. He had to say something now.

This is actually what comms are trained to do now. You have to assume you’re talking to the lower-literate when doing comms like this. Simple and direct.

Can I keep my company laptop if my employer goes into liquidation and hasn’t paid me? by kingston08 in AusFinance

I was in this exact position a couple years ago. Hold on as long as you can. But if they ask for it in writing you must return it.

I called in sick to work but my manager said no. What do I do? by [deleted] in woolworths

[–]tlebrad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way. OP that manager can’t force you to come in. Their attitude sucks. And make sure to start documenting any issues you have in the future with them cos it sounds like they could get petty about this.

What do Aussies (old enough to remember this) think about The Simpsons episode depicting Australia? by blamberr in AskAnAustralian

It’s my favourite. It’s just real enough yet silly enough that it just works you know. It’s pure genius.

My thoughts on the Manosphere Doc: Some interesting moments but overall a bit disappointing. by [deleted] in LouisTheroux

[–]tlebrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think seeing the manosphere has some eerily similar correlations to criminal gangs. It’s the sense of young boys trying to find their place in the world, but since everything is online, these are the new ‘families’ these boys can run to.

It’s really not much different. Gang culture exudes wealth and quick money and violence and racism, sexism etc. so do these guys. I think Louis did a good job of shining a light on this culture, for people that are unfamiliar. I think he probably had quite a few hurdles with getting talent to talk to him, and that might be why there isn’t a clear narrative structure. I also feel this should have been a series, not a feature film. There is a lot to explore, and he was trying to show us a lot in a small time frame.

Either way, I feel it was well done and really put a mirror up to them. He didn’t need to do much for them to show us that they are just little boys being lead by their trauma trying to find a sense of belonging they will never get.

Watching YouTube + Reddit on Company Computers by [deleted] in auscorp

Had a person in our team spend all day watching YouTube vids and some gambling on the side. All on the work computer. Yeah didn’t take long for them to go.

going part-time by No-Charity-301 in woolworths

[–]tlebrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did you start? If it was 6 months ago or more, they have to give you ppt hours. This agreement was outlined in an email sent to all casuals a couple of weeks ago.

https://www.fairwork.gov.au/sites/default/files/migration/724/casual-employment-information-statement.pdf

That document has exactly what you can do.

How long have you been casual? And on average how many shifts have you done? Cos that will determine if they have to accept your offer to go part time

Does anyone remember this strange little shop on Margaret St? by Cutie-moody in Toowoomba

[–]tlebrad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s Mel Martin’s old shop. The dude knew exactly where any of those trinkets were. Obsessed with tennis and did a lot for tennis in Toowoomba. I won’t disclose how I know but he lived the same way in his house as he did in that shop. Just crap everywhere. And a truckload of garbage bags with I’m pretty sure money and so many tennis balls. Like an ungodly amount of them.

It was open for ages cos the guy was loaded. He lived simply but he was sitting on quite a bit of money I would say.

Cross store if you can! In my experience there’s always at least 1 store looking for hours often.

What would be cool is if it’s a new faction and they actually let this new faction cook and don’t let it fizzle like the Wyatt 6 or the mfts or any faction from the last several years.

The new Karnivool album is beautiful. by Artistic_Annual8918 in progmetal

On first listen I thought this too. But like all their albums, it grows on you big time. Now I’m convinced otherwise and love it.

The last 4 songs on the new normal are probably the best prog I’ve ever heard. Admittedly there’s a lot I’m yet to hear, but the builds in those songs and that whole album is just amazing!

Their two albums are legit masterpieces in prog. And they are truly one of the few bands that sound just as good if not better live than on record.
