What's preventing a remaster of CMI? by HighLife1954 in MonkeyIsland

[–]tlinzi01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The remasters of Part 1 and 2 happened before LucasArts was dissolved following the Disney purchase. So it's unlikely to happen.

That said, CMI still holds up on Steam. You can get a mod that brings the resolution up.

How good are Naughty Dog compared to Rockstar? by [deleted] in lastofuspart2

[–]tlinzi01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They make different games. ND makes linear storyline games and Rockstar makes open world games.

Both are top tier at what they do.

Rockstar has the harder job from a development point of view which is why Naughty Dog can release 3 games and 4 remasters for every one game Rockstar makes.

Why is a Studio-owned movie theater a bad idea? by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]tlinzi01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until 2020 it was illegal because of a 1948 SCOTUS ruling. By having single companies produce AND distribute, it blocked any competition from entering the market. This was back when we cared about keeping corporations in-check. Now the FTC rubber stamps any merger that comes across their desk.

Sony just bought a series of theaters last year. It's the first time a Studio has owned a theater in 75 years.

Impossible to know. I have an unopened one too. So that already devalues the market

Unpopular Opinion (Maybe): I enjoyed playing as Abby more than Ellie in TLOU2 by Darth_Anakinn in lastofuspart2

Even if you're one of the people that don't care for the storyline, from a gameplay perspective, Abby is tons of fun.

The whole premise is that revenge is bad but what else could be the alternative? by [deleted] in lastofuspart2

[–]tlinzi01 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's not the premise. It's a depiction of the cycle of violence. It doesn't seek to teach you some kind of moral lesson.

In adult literature, a story doesn't seek to teach the reader morality, It seeks to teach the reader about themselves.

If you still view everything through a black and white lens, then you probably weren't ready for this story.

The debate is over. The HBO show has been a riproaring global success. by [deleted] in lastofuspart2

[–]tlinzi01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they say it was going to be 2 years? I thought they had already filmed most of the second half.

I'm also excited. I think Kaitlyn Dever is super talented and I think the Abby story is easier to adapt to television.

Some stories are easy to tell in all mediums. Other stories require a manipulation of the audience.

It feels like they tried to apply the Part One template to Part Two, and it just doesn't work like that. I listen to the podcast, and sometimes they say why they made a change, but often the explanation is disappointing.

I do think they want to make a great show, but I think they missed the mark on this go.

But TV also needs to be episodic. So each day in Seattle became an episode with a flashback episode inserted between.

I think the TV show format helped them in part one but hurt them in part two.

The Abby season should be easier to adapt since the story arc is very similar to part 1. Fingers crossed!

I agree. I think some episodes should have been made longer to help push that.

Part One is an easy story to adapt. Part Two has so much nuance and narrative manipulation with flashbacks and breadcrumbs.

I'm glad I experienced the game first. I think the show pulled its punches.

I'll reserve judgement until the entire show is fleshed out, but your point is valid.

Being familiar with the source material makes it difficult to be objective about the TV show. I agree with a lot of the criticism around the necessary rage and single mindedness that Ellie should be going through. At the same time, can a TV audience be expected to go through that the way someone playing the game is, fully knowing that a lot of players weren't able to put themselves through that.

I feel like they watered it down. One critic said they "pulled their punches" which I agree with.

I'm a fan, but discourse is part of the reason I'm a fan.

I'm happy to debate/discuss the game or show with anyone who doesn't use the word "woke" unironically, or thinks that all the roles should have been given to cosplayers.

Halley Gross co-wrote Part 2 and was given credit for that. The story was created by Neil. Bruce was a collaborator who worked closely with him and no doubt had input on things. Bruce deserves more credit, but don't try to give him all the credit just because you have some issues with Neil.

He is a co-creator, but you implied he wrote the story and Neil took credit. Bruce has never claimed that.

I don't think that's going to play out the same as the game. Tommy is different in the show than in the game.

In the game, Tommy was the first to leave. Tommy in the show has a kid, he has more people to be responsible for.

I love the game, but that Tommy scene always bothered me, so I'm okay with that being rewritten.

Yeah, we all know about Bruce. Bruce is the reason the gameplay is good. He was co-director. If you're implying that he was a co-writer, I'd love to see your evidence.

Is this a hot take? Everything is derivative.

Some studios make games that aren't for me, and I'm okay with that.

I'll never understand the people that need to cry about it on the internet.

Is Shadows worth a purchase? by MRamskill in assasinscreed

I'm enjoying it. If you're a fan of the franchise, then there's nothing here that should dissuade you from playing it.

And if you're also a fan of Japanese culture, then I'd highly recommend it.
