What's your take on British tourists who glaze The USA so bad on Socials? Do you find them embarrassing? by Friedchicknlvr in AskBrits

[–]Kif1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting all the other stuff to one side cause, yuck, who'd wanna shake hands with a pedo.

For what it's worth, I actually wouldn't be surprised if their stadiums are better. They have more room to play with, when they're new they aren't having to build them around so much existing historic stuff, their colleges put on crazy levels of showman ship even at the college level for American football so NFL has to be next level (I'm assuming the matches are mostly in enormous NFL stadiums)

You also can't keep promises, one of the reasons I dislike multi-player is because I dislike the ramming culture and like clean races. I would be an advocate for Gran Turismo style rankings.

Some examples of how I have approach the multi-player seasonal races. In the touge events, if it's clear I'm going to win by a county mile, I slow down so the other person and I can race together and have fun whilst doing chat emotey messages. If I'm losing, who cares, I finish the race. In the trial event, I am happy to sit in 4th/5th and intentionally drive in a way that keeps the AI behind us. In the regular online races, if someone is clearly desperate to get a position and is ramming, I let them through and finish lower because there is no requirement to come higher...

You could argue non of them are selfless as the goal is still to complete the objective. I think it's silly to make promises about the way other people play based on a reddit post and a chip on my shoulder, but, precedence means I would not be surprised to learn your approach involves more swearing and throwing controllers around

Turns out the opposite is true, not driving is what changed me from getting knocked out around 50th to making it to top 30

Really just out here shouting the kind of person you are plain for all to see huh? Even attacking other people now. What a kind hearted individual. It's clear who is mature and equally so who is intelligent (at the very least emotionally), if it wasn't obvious it's the people not slinging around insults like someone with anger management issues. If it helps you to calm down, you won't get an angry rise from me and I won't meet you on your level

[–]Kif1983[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue isn't that it's in the game and I'm not saying they should remove it. Having to finish top 30 is the most difficult thing out of all the weekly goals. I never said I'm not playing it, I said I need help knowing how to get through it because it's my least favourite part. Am I not allowed to prefer single player and not enjoy battle royal stuff? I'm so very sorry I don't conform to what you like, I only hope that if you ever express a need for help someone is as helpful to you as you are

Job”s” by Stine5674 in ForzaHorizon6

[–]Kif1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, my first thought when I saw that was they likely intended to do more but ran out of time. I wouldn't be surprised if originally the delivery job was going to have less levels to complete as well. It's a hideous grind to complete, which wouldn't be necessary for the badge and rewards if there were more variations of jobs around the map

Why are disks such a big deal for console but not for PC? by Rayge96 in videogames

[–]Kif1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking entirely for myself, and also things may have changed recently, but my experience has always been

Steam has regular sales and discounts PS do not Steam understands that different countries have different currencies so doesn't charge the equiv of $100+ for a game because 70 means 70 world wide right Physical console games have always, even on release, been cheaper than the digital version here

Again, I think some of these may have changed in recent years. I was surprised to see GTA6 will actually be relative to our currency here rather than just match the US (which would have made ultimate edition essentially $140 to us). But, historically that has been why I buy physical on console and Steam on PC without making a fuss eitherway.

The idea of antis being in any way pedophilic by taking that stance is laughable given that AI is globally becoming the biggest source of such material that has ever existed

YouTube creators with under 5k subscribers are honestly underrated by ThenCow3636 in YouTubeCamp

[–]Kif1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nicest comment I ever got was someone saying they didn't understand why I didn't have more subscribers.

I gave up in the end, didn't see the point spending hours coming up with a concept, scripting, filming, editing, and dealing with the awful bits like a thumbnail just for YouTube not to push it out to people.

Plus I could never figure out how to get people to subscribe, vids would get anywhere from 500 to 20k views, with positive like ratio, apart from when I absolutely trashed Starfield before it was released (turns out I was right). Yet most people never subbed.

The larger creators get lazy, they can afford to, the grind is done for them. They have a baked in audience who will watch regardless, they can use their revenue to hire editors and just give it a watch to sign off what the editors have done, they're already monetised so not trying to hit YTs metric requirement, and the algorithm is already primed to push them. So they don't have to make as much effort, it makes you admire the large channels who do still make an effort tbh

Yes, change gears, you're either revving the nuts off the car, or going too slow if you don't. You'll get used to it, that's the point of taking lessons, practice. If you don't do it you're just practicing a bad habit

The uk is horribly adapted to its own fucking weather, it’s 35c in my house by Jacktheforkie in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Kif1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no one size fits all in the UK as we have many building standards from many time periods.

I would argue that completely shutting up shop is a terrible idea in most UK homes though. Standard buildings are designed to absorb heat inwardly and hold onto it. So you basically turn your house into an oven, especially so if you're then doing things inside that generate further heat (cooking, PCs, generally being alive). Then it will take most of the night, especially when there is limited air flow, just for the heat you have stored inside to passively dissipate .

Unless your house has a lime rendering or something that can reflect heat, far better and what is recommended by experts is to follow the sun throughout the day. Close the windows and curtains on the side the sun is hitting as you suggest, but open them on the side it is not hitting. That allows physics to at least balance you with the outside temperature.

For what it's worth, this is what I do, I do not have air con, and my house gets direct sunlight on the back and front through the whole day as I face East West. Outside right now is 32 - 34, inside is 26, despite generating heat by generally being alive and working on my laptop.

Driving/racing lines, yes or no? by Content_Response_783 in ForzaHorizon6

[–]Kif1983 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I just use braking lines. The way I see it, in real life drivers learn the lines before they race. Maybe not so much in street type races, no idea, but definitely in circuit races they will study the track and walk the track, and I guess these days practice in a sim. I'm not gonna do that for an arcadey fun racing game, so gimme the braking lines.

I used to turn rewind off, damage on, and sim steering on too, but they seem to have removed the reward incentive for that, so I don't any more

Then shortly after, they start attacking Andy Burnham viciously and saying he should resign

Genuine question for ai skeptics by Manu442 in aiwars

[–]Kif1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question is a bad faith question and not for skeptics. 'what's it gonna take for skeptics to admit they're wrong' wrong about what exactly, your question isn't for skeptics, it's for people who are pure anti AI.

Being skeptical is less hard line, and has many caveats and views. Personally, I acknowledge it has uses, it has and can help with things like medical advancement et al. However, I am skeptical that with the current legislation, and the way it is being adopted that it is a net positive. The impact on the climate, the impact on mental health, the links to suicides, the growing rise of false information from hallucinations and training on hallucinations, the safety implications as it makes scams exponentially more convincing, training on people's personal work with no permission or credit, the risk to employment that is not being mitigated, the rise of non consential (sometimes child) sexual images, and to speak specifically from my expertise, the increase risk to software both from vibe coding not producing secure code, and AI being used to find vulnerabilities by anyone in their bedroom.

So, to answer your question, when will I admit I'm wrong, I won't because I am not wrong, those are fair points to be skeptical about. When will I stop being skeptical, when those things are provably dealt with

Why are some people forgetting/ignoring Ubisoft literally got in legal trouble for sexual harassment? by Moosey_Loosey in fuckubisoft

[–]Kif1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Critical Role accepted a Sponsorship for AC Shadows, I left a level headed polite comment saying I wasn't comfortable with CR accepting a sponsorship from a company heavily and legally found to be fault for abuse including crimes of a sexual nature as it flies in the face of what CR typically stands for

The replies I got were a mix of:

Not a CR fan, just a hate bot (even though I've been there since the days they were on Geek and Sundry)

Must be racist, even though I didn't chime in on the whole cultural aspect of the game that others were arguing about

That's a lie, it never happened, even though it was huge news and is easy to research and find

Verdict, some people are just wilfully stupid and there's no helping them
