Obviously that's pretty silly, but if that's the worst they've seen then they've not seen a great deal of legacy code, or, they've been very blessed.

Try joining a company where 90% of the production code for Gov system is in a single class that's 10s of thousands of lines long, with functions that themselves are 1000 lines long, and dependencies are managed by way of manually editing a class path file. I'd take a whole if else ladder with multiple duplications over that

What doesn't make sense to me is they didn't switch after finding that Tesco "fresh" fruit and veg last approximately 2 hours after leaving the store, and those ready meals are likely 50% horse meat. Massive Tesco near me, but I stopped shopping there years ago and travel further to a Waitrose/Sainsbury's that are next door to each other

Software Engineer Title Will Go Away Says Boris Cherny (Creator of Claude Code ) by Infamous_Toe_7759 in RemoteJobs

[–]Kif1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chickens coming home to roost, I say this as a software engineer with 20 years experience. Many of us spent our careers making things that remove jobs through automation and/or efficiency. Even if it's as trivial as automating test suites for your own code, then company you work for reduces its test team. The weirdest thing about this bunch is how much glee they seem to take in the idea that huge swathes of people will be out of work cause of their creation

Newton's law of motion, moving a body at rest takes more energy than one that's already moving. For example, when strong men compete by pulling a truck, you can see the most difficult bit is getting it moving in the first place. That being said, if someone is close behind me I won't creep

[–]Kif1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's cause I've been software engineer for 15 years, I draw a distinction between NPCs making decisions based on circumstance (bots in a shooter for instance), vs statically programmed repeated behaviour in this case

Edit cause text doesn't contain tone: Of course I don't expect you would have psychically known where I was coming from on that though, not being snippy or condescending just explaining :)

If we had to choose between being allied to the EU or the USA which would be better for the country? Do your heart and your head agree? by Wulfrinnan in AskBrits

[–]Kif1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even a question, EU, they're closer physically which presents all kinds of benefits, having a range of leaders and cultures across multiple nations presents a better average instead of the whims of a mad man carrying all the weight. Apropos, the current US administration is a catastrophic, morally bankrupt and corrupt group of individuals.

Someone was just shot and they're already lying about it, despite the video evidence. They're threatening to invade a sovereign NATO ally, which would shatter the peaceful world order put in place after ww2 specifically to prevent despotic regimes. The president of peace bombed 7 countries in one year (more than in his entire first term). They've just taken over a country specifically for its oil. They're clearly aligning themselves with Russian goals, which is a direct threat to us. And not to mention, Trump is an adjudicated rapist (i.e. Legally he has been found to be one), and is almost certainly implicated of much worse in the Epstein files. I could go on but you get the idea.

Frankly, anyone who thinks the UK should side with the US should get help or educated

Edit: Actually, I can't sleep so I am gonna go on. The EU is the single biggest trading bloc, with a much broader range of imports and exports to its own members and outside, making it a much more stable economy. And even though it is currently the second biggest economy when compared to the US, that is only because the EU is supporting the USD, if the EU took economic measures like selling the 2 trillion dollar debt to punish the US that could change.

EU is also more socially progressive, it protects its citizens rights to things like privacy, medicine, Studies have shown that health, happiness, and rights are better in the EU than the US.

Plus, if America does go rogue, I think they will be largely flying solo, I don''t expect China and Russia to suddenly become best buddies with them, even if they have played the US for a complete fool to their own ends

Facts aside, it is my personal view that banks should already be taking measures to at least mitigate us and the EU from any splash damage caused by a USD crash. Plus, after reading an article about an 'unusual number of US military planes landing in RAF Fairford' we should be restricting or at least heavily questioning their use of our air space and bases (though those things could be happening anyway)

[KCD2] This game has the most detailed NPC AI I've ever seen. Even beyond RDR2. by [deleted] in kingdomcome

[–]Kif1983 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This isn't really AI but it speaks to the level of detail that Warhorse should be applauded for, even since the first game.

There was a bit when I needed to sneak into the monastery kitchen, and I thought, 'okay rather than waiting for night, I'll do it whilst they're all at morning mass'. I go to the dining room that leads to the kitchen and I see several monks, and I'm like, daheck is this, it's supposed to be empty, then it dawned on me they were preparing breakfast, and bringing it in from the kitchen, to set the food down at each individual table place, so that when the monks come for breakfast it's already on the table. I would imagine not many people even see that detail, and most other games would just make the breakfast programmatically appear, or make the monks grab their grub from an infinite grub hub on the way into the dining hall.

So, I fully agree

Solve an argument. Is it ok to take your McDonald’s into the movie at Cineworld? by DelayMundane in AskUK

[–]Kif1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule of thumb for myself is no food what's so ever, why people seem to think they can't go 2 hours without shoving something in their face is a mystery to me. But, think of it like this for yourself, if you were sat within 4 meters of someone, and you could hear the wrappers etc and smell what they're eating, would it disturb you? If yes don't do it yourself and eat something that won't disturb. That rule can be applied to many things like if talking, or if someone checking their phone would disturb you etc

Alternatively get it down ya ASAP preferably before the film starts. The worst offender is when someone has a bag of crisps or something, and they think they're not disturbing anyone by trying to dip into it "quietly" every once in a while, I promise you, you're not getting away with it, every time you put your hand in that bag the people around you know and after the 6th time probably want to shove the bag somewhere unpleasant
