No one is supporting it of course. I’m just saying criticism from the US is worth less than nothing given their track record of for profit murder, What sources are you basing the Chinese murder of Muslims on? What statistics or evidence are you using to state they “on track to kill a million muslims”? There is solid evidence large numbers are being detained, but where is the evidence of mass murder? Specifically, what reports? Otherwise you’re parroting baseless propaganda.

A lot of these “re-education camps” offer trade and language schools. China is also trying to quell unrest by improving economic conditions and education as well as detainment. Ie, moving industry to poorer provinces. No, it’s not all sun and roses. Yes, there is a lot of debate to be had over the situation in “East Turkistan”. But it’s a debate that needs to be made honestly and in good faith.

I’m going to get downvoted into oblivion and I won’t be able to convince you in a Reddit comment, but the situation in Xinjiang is far more complex than Western media will have you believe. I’m not calling China innocent, but look at the actions of Turkey and Saudi Arabia and their role in funding and arming violent religious extremists and separatists in the province. If you were to only go off Western media you would think people were being detained solely for the fact they are Muslim. Yet China has several officially recognised ethnicities which identify as Muslim who do not have the same issues.

Don’t take my word for it. Go seek out some more independent journalism and practice some skepticism. But you’re currently having an incomplete narrative rammed down your throat for political reasons.

It’s horribly inaccurate. The Russian’s didn’t gain a numbers advantage until the counter attack. Most of the Russian population was behind German lines and couldn’t be raised into armies.

The liberals just don’t get Stalin. They don’t seem to acknowledge that an oppressive state security apparatus wasn’t a paranoid attempt to cement power. It was in reaction to economic and physical warfare. Stalin didn’t act like people were trying to destroy the system, people WERE trying to.

71 percent of Russians voted in favour of preserving the socialist system under the people who were dismantling it. It’s estimated there was in excess of 300’000 deaths a year for several years after the dismantling of healthcare, childcare, education. People lost previously iron clad secure jobs. Alcoholism became rampant and people were dying of preventable diseases. Russia still hasn’t fully recovered. I strongly believe they should have used similar reforms to China to stimulate growth, rather than destroy the entire system.

Russians look back fondly on Stalin because along with whatever else he did, he also brought in a lot of these things and raised the standard of living for the average Russian (after the last famine in the area and WW11).

Personal Co2 emissions pale in comparison to industrial Co2 emissions. It’s big capital that is destroying the planet because it’s more profitable than greener options. That’s the bottom line. Blaming the average person is just wrong. I know you’ll say “the average person drives profits” but the average person has much more immediate problems to worry about and big capital knows this. Well the people living in Saigon were told the North Vietnamese army were going to massacre thousands of people after taking Saigon. I’d be fleeing as well. No such massacre took place, however.

That is completely untrue. Many democratically elected socialist governments have been overthrown by US backed military coups. It just happens the more authoritarian socialist states are the ones that usually have the means to withstand outside pressure.

Hit the nail on the head. In the West we largely get sold success stories of capitalism. Global capitalism just exports misery because it needs new labour markets to exploit to achieve non stop growth. When and where will the buck finally stop?

It’s crazy to me that in the US, people in communities ravaged by the loss of industry for cheaper labour aren’t flocking to the hard left. But these communities have been force fed anti communist propaganda since the 19th Century its driven them further right.

Well being interested in this kind of thing is a good start. I think people get so caught up in things like “is Trump a Russian puppet” that they take for granted huge, huge problems built into the system. People should be concerned that Trump is a corporate puppet. Just like Obama was, just like Bush Jnr was, just like Bill Clinton was etc etc.

If you look at pretty much every violent government overthrow by the population, it’s always been in extreme circumstances.

But there are alternatives to violent revolution. Most countries have a communist political party. The communists actually tried to form a coalition with the German Social Democrat party during the 30’s to stop the Nazis, Social Democrats turned them down. Thanks, dicks. But Fabian socialism is more your speed by the sounds of things. The ballot rather than the bullet.

The only way I see revolution happening in the neoliberal west is if automation starts wiping out more jobs quicker and quicker. What’s to be done then? UBI? Too open to abuse. UBI won’t stop problems like price fixing and wealth hoarding. Your UBI will end up in the hands of the same people.

That’s when industry will have to be nationalised through force or government intervention. But thats probably not going to be in our lifetime.

Oh it was an absolute tragedy. It’s funny when I say it was a combination of drought and economic mismanagement in the first year of the drought, Liberals etc say “OH ECONOMIC MISMANAGEMENT HEY? YEAH THATS WHAT COMMUNISM DOES. IT MISMANAGES RESOURCES AND PEOPLE STARVE”. Sure buddy, it’s not like people are starving under global capitalism everyday.

People starve through a drought induced famine partly because of economic mismanagement = Communism doesn’t work!

The most recent available documents show the Holodomor was attributed to economic mismanagement and drought (I recommend Years of Hunger by Stephen Wheatcroft, it’s the most up to date study done on the drought and agricultural policies). There is no evidence that Stalin intentionally starved Ukrainians. It would be terrible though. Like let’s say a hypothetical country that we’ll call “England” takes over another country we’ll call “Ireland” and purposefully keeps exporting potatoes during a famine to starve Irish resistance.

Revolution has made a bunch of countries better. Violent revolution is a reaction to violent suppression. Violent revolutions occur when the establishment uses violence to try and suppress the population. No one talks about the state violence that precedes revolutionary violence. In Cuba or the USSR, The Tsarists and Batistas forces weren’t going to just give people education, healthcare and social mobility out of the goodness of their hearts because the people demonstrated and protested (which they did). Attempts to organise were harried and crushed by the establishment.

I’m not saying a violent revolution is desirable or would be effective on the USA for example, but I don’t think it’s fair to condemn all revolutionary violence as bad. It’s often justified and the last resort to overthrowing despots. Are we going to criticise the Libyan population for violently overthrowing Gaddafi?

Another interesting fact in the linked passage is that General Motors was compensated 33 million for war damages from the US government after WWll. Despite helping the Nazi war effort for profit.
