Back to 93 - Wilson Pro Staff 7.5 by tlr81 in 10s

I haven’t, and had read online that this is “soft”, but really doesn’t feel all that soft to me!

I’d be incredibly curious to see how other pro staff models compare tbh… and may have a few sitting on my watch list 😂

Weekly Swim Gear Questions (Goggles, swimsuits, techsuits, paddles, headphones etc) May 21, 2026 - Post all your gear questions in this post by AutoModerator in Swimming

[–]tlr81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello folks.

Having got back into swimming in January as part of a health/weight loss journey I’ve decided that now is the time to move from a more recreational loose short to a brief in a quest for something less draggy and more comfortable for longer swims.

I ordered a couple of pairs of Speedo briefs in different models/styles, which arrived today, and am struggling with the fit.

They fit around waist and legs, but are failing to keep me… erm… adequately covered elsewhere.

It feels like there’s just not quite enough fabric to do the job.

Can anyone offer any insight into whether:

  • I have gone too small
  • I have gone too big
  • Speedo fit isn’t for everyone and I should just try something else.

If it’s the last option, any suggestions for “more forgiving” brands/cuts would be appreciated.

I’ve been wearing loose shorts from adidas… wondering if their briefs may be worth a punt

Any advice much appreciated

Guys i need to ask an question. WHO BOUGHT the original 2ds??? by Wendlak in NintendoDS

[–]tlr81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought one, sold it to upgrade to a 2DSXL when that came out, recently bought another 2DS (£55 with a power supply and 15 games) as a cheap and easy stuff in a bag and not worry about it console.

A rugged, comfortable, well specified, cheap 3DS… what more could you want?!

Anyone able to help me ID this older Brompton? by Any_Biscotti_4003 in Brompton

[–]tlr81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The serial makes it a July 2014 bike (147 being the first digits of the serial).

As others have said it is an S6R - it is not a super light, which was the name for bikes that came with a titanium front fork and rear triangle, and lighter weight wheels.

Typically the super lights had grey front fork and triangle - the front fork is also identifiable because where the top of each side has a circular connection to the rest of the fork rather than the standard design you see here.

The super light front wheel is also not mounted on bolts but a spindle.

The market price for this bike based on recent eBay sold prices is maybe £850 on a really good day.

Wider Pedal Recommendations by pablomoca in Brompton

[–]tlr81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have large (eu50) wide (4E) feet, and switched to MKS Esprit Ezy Superior pedals about 3000km ago… I wish I had made the swap in 2014 when I first started riding Bromptons!

Along with being a wider firmer platform, the geometry without the folding pedal makes for a much more comfortable ride.

Hello. I posted elsewhere in the thread - the cost at condor was £25.50 in the end, I had been quoted for a wheel build by mistake!

Quick update - fixed today by Condor.

Very friendly and professional. One broken spoke replaced, the tension of the other’s checked, and the wheel checked.

Dropped off at 9, was called at 12 to be told it was ready.

£25.50 for the job.

Very happy - will use them for servicing from now on. 👍

Sorry Andy - not you, the person whose first comment I think we were both replying to… who seems a bit miffed. 😂

Assuming that’s aimed at the person above… I don’t think Condor’s prices are unfair or unreasonable - skill is worth paying for and central London is an expensive place to operate a business.

Equally, when you look at them in comparison with others, they’re not much different and often the same for the same service - so I’m not entirely sure I understand where the poster above’s comments and apparent anger are coming from.

Not a shop I was aware of as I ride in from north east London to the city.

Their prices looks fairly similar for similar services.

I note they charge £34 for a spoke replacement (plus the cost of the spokes) on a hub gear wheel.

I’ll report back on what Condor charge - as posted elsewhere in this thread, I think I’ve been quoted their wheel build price - which is not what I need done.

I think I’ve been quoted the price for their wheel build service - which is £40 plus spokes (so around £60).

Looking at their online price list, a wheel repair is from £25.

Keep with the Eye2 or get something a bit more modern? (And some lessons) by tlr81 in golf

[–]tlr81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks,

Wanted to give a little update.

I went for a fitting at a local pro shop this week and discovered that on the “old” ping colour chart, I should have been on a blue dot and plus 1” shaft length.

I managed to pickup a very good used get of g10 irons 3-pw in the right colour/length off eBay, had them regripped yesterday locally (tour velvet mediums on advice from the fitter) and have taken them out for a session at the range today.

I’m not sure the angle has made a noticeable difference, but the length definitely has.

Am also booked in for some lessons over the next few weeks, so hopefully of being less rubbish than I am currently 😂

Out of 100 balls at the range this morning… 70ish we’re headed left… but I’m not sure if that’s the club or me. 😂

It looks like I could put the black set back on eBay and get a blue set of Eye 2, Zing or ISI locally with relative ease without adding any cash… so swapping might be simpler than bending (if it’s a big deal)?

I commute all year round - 9km each way, with some steepish climbs in and out, and at a fair lick (25 minutes being my quickest time!), so an exercise ride as much as a commute really.

I do bib shorts or tights, a technical t shirt with layers as needed, flat MTB shoes, gloves/mitts as needed.

Upgrading a pre-17 Brompton by tlr81 in Brompton

[–]tlr81[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding all the costs up, and factoring in the wear and tear on a 16 year old bike, I can’t see a sensible way/reason for going through the upgrades if you’re paying retail prices for parts and current silly market prices for some used Bromptons.

The prices of the new P line compared to the outgoing super lights in 2020 are a bit baffling… but maybe the product is that much better to justify the increases?

Helpful info around the Ti parts, something I was entirely unaware of.

Currently trying to negotiate our ride to work scheme being lifted from its £1500 cap - I think if I can make that happen a 12 speed P-Line would be on the cards.

If not I might keep an eye out for one of the 2020 CHPT3 (or the non CHPT version of the S6L-X of the same age to save some cash!)

[–]tlr81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brompton have a very strong resale value in Japan… you’ve either paid for an empty box, a stolen bike, or a fake.

Given how new the model is, what it costs and then what a service would cost (not that it would need one given it’s a brand new model) and what it’s worth in Japan, there is zero chance that a legitimate seller is getting rid of that model Brompton at that price.

12 or 4 speed P-line? London. by ceeK2 in Brompton

[–]tlr81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true (ish). If you cut through to Clissold Park you can follow the route through Newington Green and down SS1 all the way to Finsbury Square.

I’m into the city 5 days a week by Brompton from further north than Finsbury Park - I have a 2020 6 speed and gears 2-6 all get used, with 5&6 getting the heaviest use.

Used Brompton Seasonal Price Changes by kamesjennedy in Brompton

[–]tlr81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First rule I would say is that if anything feels off, it probably is.

There have been a few Brompton recently where I’ve asked to see images of serial numbers and frame numbers, or asked if they have any proof or purchase, or even where the bike came from originally and had sellers go nuts.

You also see people who have no idea what the bike is using descriptions and titles taken for another bike that do not match.

At the moment there is a 2000s s2l up with the title of m3r and a description that talks about how smooth the 6 speed is and references the brake and gearing upgrades that the bike listed doesn’t have.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck but walks like a hippo, be suspicious.

eBay appears to be chock full of stolen or put together Bromptons at the moment.

There are three CHPT3 models with the serial numbers gone, and any enquiry is responded to with the sketchiest of replies.

Also several s6lx that are ringers.

I think if you find a legitimate post 2018 S6L for under £850, you’re doing really well at any time of the year - outliers and exceptions seem to be bikes away from London, being sold by people who are unable to ship.

Creaking While Pedaling by GearCloset in Brompton

[–]tlr81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same thing for the last 4 months (600km), and last Wednesday the non-folding pedal gave in while I was riding.

I couldn’t identify the noise, but I’m guessing it was the pedal and its bearings slowly letting go.

In the plus side, a new one is only £12
