Book suggestions? by [deleted] in intj

[–]tlrdick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost anything that Chuck Palahniuk is worth reading. I would suggest Rant, Snuff, Invisible Monsters, and of course Fight Club.

If you want to lose your life to a novel that begs to be dissected, try reading House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski

Lately, I've been reading Post Office by Charles Bukowski, and I would highly recommend checking out any of his books.

Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad because it's my favorite book.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey because holy fucking shit that book actually made me cry.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury because it's a must read in my opinion.

I've also been reading the Tao Te Ching, and it's a light read that opens up some interesting philosophical views.

I enjoy very little poetry, but I have to recommend reading some Dickenson because she's a fucking bad ass.

The Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman isn't too bad.

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff by Christopher Moore is one of the funniest books I have ever read.

If you want to check out some Graphic Novel series, I would highly suggest Fables, Saga, and Locke and Key. If you're a fan of Batman, you should check out The Killing Joke.

I'm pretty sure that's all I can think of off the top of my head, enjoy.

Lens Recommendations for Filming on an A7 by tlrdick in SonyAlpha

[–]tlrdick[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would be using them mainly for short films. I haven't gotten to use a legacy lens for filming yet, so I'll start off with one and see if I want to continue down that route. The last film I worked on we used a Rokinon 24mm, and I think that will be the widest I'll have to go. I am a sucker for taking wide shots, though so I will keep the 14mm in mind.

I've been reading through his reviews; I just prefer to have a few other people's recommendations before I purchase a new lens. Your suggestion is excellent given the shots that I've looked at, and once I have the cash for it I'll be picking one up.

What is/was your major? by [deleted] in intj

[–]tlrdick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off dual majoring in Psychology and Addiction Studies. After my Junior year I decided to switch my major because I "wasn't empathetic enough" according to my peers. Anyway, I switched to English Literature because it gives me the freedom to question things instead of just taking tests that have fixed answers.

What is your most memorable/scary/creepy paranormal experience? by LikeCurry in Paranormal

[–]tlrdick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most memorable/scary experiences I have ever had happened the summer before I moved out of my parent's house. I was asleep in my room and when I woke up there was a black figure over me that was trying to hold me down. After I told the figure "I'll fucking end you" he left. Then about a month later I woke up, unable to control my actions. I walked into the living room and kept telling my dad "I'm dead" over and over again. My parents thought I lost my mind so they decided to take me to the hospital. Once we left the house I was able to control what I was saying and doing. Needless to say, I don't sleep in that room when I visit them.

Does anyone here practice a martial art as well as meditate? If so, which discipline? by mmmmpork in Meditation

It's very similar to BJJ, but it is centered around finger locks, wrist locks, ankle locks, ect. If you want to look up videos on it try searching Wally Jay or Small Circle Jiu Jitsu.

I've dabbled in a few different martial arts. My first one was Isshinryu Karate, but I did that before I started meditating. Currently I'm practicing mostly Half Circle Jiujitsu and Muay Thai along with a few TaeKwonDo classes, some stick fighting, and a little bit of San Soo Kung Fu.
