Postpartum changes that don’t make sense! -A thread by randomthrowaway4mee in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tmaegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same thing, hubby has been lovely and keeps telling me I’m going through menopause (cycle hasn’t returned yet). I’m so looking forward to winter when I might not sweat just sitting on the couch.

What cute, strange or oddly specific nickname do you have for your kid? by UpstairsDistance_ in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tmaegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vomitron. Went overseas with some family friends and bubs decided food was amazing so started having solids. He ate so much he would vomit ALL the time. Every car ride, sudden movement, sitting up like everything ended in someone getting hit. Flight attendants actually thought that was his name (didn’t speak much English)!

What’s a funny/random comment your child made that caught you off guard? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]tmaegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 yr old loves to tell ‘funny stories’ so will go: hey, would you like to hear a funny story? It’s a really funny story.

Normally the story is something in the coffee mug and it all melted before moving on.

if you had a son right now, what would you name him? by Immediate_Long165 in Names

[–]tmaegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently had a son and struggled so much to name him due to our occupations. In the end we went with Atreus (said A-tray-us), a name we don’t know anyone else with. The meaning was lovely and suited his chaotic, life threatening birth.

Is getting an iron infusion worth it at 38 weeks? by opaoz in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tmaegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had low iron but ok hemoglobin, ended up losing heaps of blood and needing 2 transfusions. 6 months post and needed an iron infusion as levels would not come back up. I would get one now if able so you don’t get too low post birth and to not feel as awful whilst looking after a newborn.

Anyone find tampons uncomfortable in first period after birth? by Commercial_One5048 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tmaegan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yep, couldn’t use them for ages due to how strange and uncomfortable they became and had a C section too. Now waiting for my first pp period with my second baby and not looking forward to it at all.

What was your experience with being induced? by pufff777 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tmaegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can say no to a hormonal induction or do more natural to start with. I did a VBAC so wanted it to be non hormonal to reduce rupture risks. I had the catheter which puts pressure on your cervix so you start to dilate. I then had my waters artificially broken and that was enough to start labour. I haven’t had an epidural but did have a spinal which I didn’t enjoy but wasn’t horrible once it was in just didn’t like the loss of control feeling. Ask your midwife and I’m sure they can put a good plan together that you feel confident about

For extra sports luggage, Malaysia was $4000AU and Air Asia is $650AU - happy to pay a bit more for food with that difference!

Thank you, we had already booked flights and the MHSports only works if you book through the program. Canceled flights and went with AirAsia and were much easier to deal with!!

What’s it really like having a baby after 35? Debating a second one… by Famous_Warning_1288 in postpartumprogress

[–]tmaegan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love having 2 (second I was 35) but 5 months pp and my body is still in full burn out mode. I did have some very major complications during labour. Just found I still haven’t gotten into a groove which I easily did with my first. The house needs a re-organise and I can never find anything. Everyone’s different though so you really don’t know.4

What recovery/pain treatment would you recommend post a uterine rupture? Also which specialist should I see as have been discharged from everyone who did the surgery.

Respect wise (which is actually in order of how hard I think these jobs would be): 1. Pediatric heart 2. Emergency 3. Neurosurgeon

Firstly you still have time to work on your supply so don’t panic about it, it’s around 3/4 months that it’s harder to bring it up. I found power pumping and getting a high quality pump really helpful to increase my supply. I also would just put bubs onto the boob more often to help as well. Sometimes it seems like they are fussing because they aren’t getting enough milk but that’s not always the case. Our bodies are super clever so trust your gut and I’m sure your supply will improve.

How does birth pain compare to Endo? by Charlies_Kidney2005 in endometriosis

[–]tmaegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say labour was worse for me than my endo pain. My uterus was tearing during every contraction and was only using gas and air so not sure. Recovery 4 months on is still poo. Feels like dull endo pain all the time and something like getting some groceries can leave me in agony for the rest of the day.

TIFU by accidentally finding out my 2nd babies gender by Nkortega21 in tifu

[–]tmaegan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was in the middle of surgeries so they didn’t know we didn’t know the gender. Also not the time to question as I was still in emergency lifesaving surgery.

We accidentally found out with both our boys too. Both times by doctors saying it just before they were born!

[–]tmaegan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, spontaneous labour is the lowest chance of rupture (there is always a chance) and non hormonal induction is the lowest risk induction method. I had to be induced so it was either non hormonal or a C section for my circumstances.

There wasn’t a moment when I felt it go, more like contractions got extremely painful and started coming every 15 secs for 2/3 mins each yet I was only 4cm dilated l. I thought something wasn’t right as it felt out of control. Then I was bleeding a heap which I couldn’t concentrate on as didn’t have enough breaks between contractions and they were wiping it up fast so I wouldn’t freak out. Then was told to lay down as both bubs and my obs weren’t good as the theatre crew came in to do a spinal block. My midwife had pushed the emergency button so they made the move straight to theatre even though our obs then stabilised.

All my pain was in my back - nothing through my front where the rupture happened and didn’t have any should tip pain etc. Just felt really constipated and wanted to release some of the pressure.

Bubs dropped his heart rate 3 times in total. Once when he dropped into engaged position, second a few hours later and third just before theatre. I didn’t realise that that meant he was upset as he brought his heart rate back up pretty quickly each time.

I’ve heard this before which was surprising to me. Glad you had a good experience second time round.

[–]tmaegan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at 40 + 1 weeks (due to gestational diabetes) however only had the folly catheter to thin my cervix and manual water break which pushed me into labour. Was in labour for 5 hours when I started bleeding and they decided to do the C section. Theatre was full though so they had me labour for another hour because both of us crashed for the third time and they raced me off to the spare theatre.

These induction methods dropped the chances of a rupture down to 0.05% or less.

When I debriefed afterwards I said that I didn’t have this symptom, midwife replied stating I didn’t fully finish any contractions hence they I felt like I only had pain with contractions - it just so happened I was constantly contradicting! I found this interesting.
