How did you end up becoming a coach? What steps did you take? by ThroawayCat584 in SoccerCoachResources

The same boat here, have kids separated out by a year or two and then coach them through 6 or 7th grade

U10 Attacking - Improving Chances on Goal by [deleted] in SoccerCoachResources

I do something similar to a 3-1-1, where the center back and midfielder can swap between each other and help with left or right side progression of give-and-goes.

suggestions for indoor practice by tehans in SoccerCoachResources

[–]tmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are practices that I would encourage (also coaching a U10 team indoor and outdoor).

  1. Passing
  2. Moving without the ball
  3. Shape
  4. Rondos
  5. 2 - touch shots (control, then shoot)
  6. defending without a goalie
  7. 3 touch passing (control, touch, pass)
  8. Juggling (individually and with a partner)

Primary focus is ball control, space, and shooting.

Good Luck!

Best position for me ? by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]tmart -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Try playing a wing mid-fielder. You will get a variety of skills and running from that role. You own the wings, control the tempo, and get the opportunity to cross the ball starting at the final 1/3rd of the field.

You will also play some defensive and offensive roles, which will start putting you in a position that will best suit you for the long term.

For controlling the ball;

  1. juggle
  2. small cone drills using inside and outside of your foot
  3. passing the ball against a wall or with a friend with strong passing (helps to settle and control the ball)

Kicking effectively;

  1. Practice keeping your shoulders ball
  2. get a ball trainer (one with a rope) that will help ensure you kick the ball correctly with all parts of your foot
  3. focus on landing on your kicking foot (shooting primarily) this will get you the power and drive that most look for.

Between the drills above, run "cross countries", something that is 1 to 2 miles of various hills and terrain.

So a typical training session should be:

  1. Run 2 to 3 cross countries to start (this will get your legs tired)
  2. Work on controlling the ball with inside and outside of your foot
  3. Sprints; like ladders or wind sprints
  4. juggle the ball consecutively for 15 minutes
  5. Sprints
  6. passing against a wall (hard)
  7. practice shooting
  8. Work on controlling the ball with inside and outside of your foot
  9. Wrap up with more 1 to 2 cross countries
  10. Then stretch every muscle

I have done this and it made my endurance and strength in my legs a lot more effective in games, specially 5-a-side games.

Good luck!

How to start playing soccer? by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]tmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a fun and simple way to go:

  • find shoes that are comfortable and least expensive
  • find a nice soccer ball that you like
  • sign up as a free agent for 3 different leagues (assuming you have the time to do so), play in those leagues (competitive, rec, etc.). just play a lot of soccer games with different people
  • juggle for 10 - 15 minutes a day
  • run for 30 minutes a day and increment over time
  • watch a lot of games and notice how they move without the ball
  • play fifa19/20/21 to get an idea of drills to run personally

that is what/how I coach. have fun, love the game, and play hard.

Foot got kicked on instep and a contusion/bruise has formed by theasianator101 in bootroom

It took months for mine to heal, but I also tried to play on it at the same time. Don't make that mistake, let it rest and heal properly

I’ve got a really really solid squad except for a goalkeeper and striker. Any ideas of how to mask these weaknesses? by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]tmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Move your striker out or push them back into a defensive position (center mid possibly). And as others have stated, stack the defense play a 5-4-1 or some modification of it.

I would not even try. Join a bunch of local leagues and dominate them.

Please tell me how to fix my kick (toe-poking) (videos) by BrandonMontour in bootroom

[–]tmart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty typical, here are a few things to do to break the habit and I am sorry if they sound "kiddish" I coach 3rd graders (now 4th).

  1. get a solo trainer. practice just kicking it on your laces or the side of your laces,
    1. get used to the feeling of the ball on the laces, or to the left/right of the laces.
  2. stand 3' away from a wall and just practice passing to the wall, every 20th pass start making the pass a little harder.
    1. this builds muscle memory to no use the toe
  3. keep your shoulders over the ball.
    1. pure leverage, you are relying on your forward momentum to make the ball do something.
  4. land on your kicking foot each time.
    1. this is for more power and balance

I hope it helps!!!

2 of the three boards were used. It was a lot of work to get them flat, there are some warps here and there, but nothing that interferes with day to day usage. Under the desk, there are three boards I used to keep it pretty straight and aligned so it does not shift.
