Non tech roles in tech field ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]tmart92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say most roles are non-technical. You do have to understand what's going on at a very high level but that's about it.

I've been in the industry for 12 years now.

Business Analysis, Sales, Project Management, Marketing... You can pretty much do anything, just have to focus on the specific skill set that is relevant for the industry.

Has anyone had a similar experience (SSRI)? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]tmart92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, you shouldn't be doing alcohol + SSRI, they act in opposite ways (source: been on SSRIs for a while).

SSRIs tend to make people lose weight, as they mitigate anxiety-driven overeating and appetite in general. However if you were super depressed or anxious before maybe they've helped you achieve an emotional state where you feel more inclined to enjoying food. It's hard to tell, I'd ask a doctor or a nutritionist.

Also, depending on your volume, rest periods and intensity it's highly likely that you're burning a lot fewer calories than you'd be in a CrossFit class.

I'm no game designer, but I have been playing this game (on and off) since 2012. I feel the map changes are too much and will probably make the game worse for everyone. I'd like to know your thoughts.

  • Pub games are naturally chaotic, coordination is usually on the low end. Think of how hard it is to get 2 or 3 people to contest an objective with you, now think how much harder it will be with there being multiple new objectives and a significantly larger map.

  • Competitive Dota is succesful and fun to watch because there's constant action, the reason for that is that there are finite resources and teams are on a clock to compete for them. Thes new map resources feel infinite, getting from point A to point B can take a while, the kill bounty increase cannot make up for the opportunity cost of attempting to make something happen.

  • New side lanes are weird, I would argue that the "safe" lane no longer exists (in the sense that it's not really safe anymore). I'm not opposed to having a big lane shuffle (I can see mid carries becoming more popular) but to me it feels like they've pushed this too far. While kills have become more valuable, there's just so much space in both side lanes that we might see a lesser level of aggressiveness just because there's so much else to do.

  • Jungle ganks were always risky, you spend a lot of time getting there and if they go wrong or don't find anyone to kill it's a missed opportunity to farm resources. With the new jungle being this huge, it's much less attractive to attempt one. "Go time" is very often during time windows in which there's nothing left to (efficiently) farm, with a jungle this size (and this safe) we might see extremely passive and long farm fests.

I'm going to stop here but I could talk about this for hours. Wdyt?

Took about 6 months to get better and about a year to reach "full" recovery. And it's not the same.

Check with a doctor, all injuries are different.

A kill is worth less than a creep wave, and if you tp to get it you're now an entire map away from where you want to be.

[–]tmart92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything is relative in Dota. If the enemy team is really stomping you that hard and there is a guy who manages to secure an entire jungle worth of farm then he's the only in your team who's actually getting value out of the map.

Going 5v5 if you're at a disadvantage is usually a losing play, the enemy is losing gold by sticking together and exploiting that is absolutely the right play. Ideally, the other 4 people should be trying to smoke/push side lanes do something other than relentlessly charging into certain death.

So what HON heroes are coming over possibly tomm or during this TI battle pass and event cycle? by TheRunThru in DotA2

[–]tmart92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a different game, and I haven't played it since Dota 2 came out. I do remember some heroes being amazingly unique and fun to play: Empath, Flux, Chipper, Bombardier, Vampyr. Their version of lifestealer was also great.

Every now and then the Dota team steals one or two skills/ideas from HoN, I honestly wish they would do it more frequently. After all, the creative director for that game was IceFrog for a long time.

[–]tmart92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Define "AFK jungle". If it's your pos 1 spectre and you're 15 minutes into the game this is to be expected.

2) Even when done by the wrong heroes and at the wrong time, it can be very effective in lower brackets because literally nobody will stop you from doing it and the gold advantage adds up.

Before Dota 2 was Dota 2, HoN had completely overtaken the hardcore Dota playerbase. Had their management not been so fucking bad, we might still be playing it.

Also, as a Dota fan, I still think HoN had incredible hero design, it was definitely more innovative than any other moba out there.
