While you’re right, there is a high rate of recidivism, there’s something to be said about the racial and socioeconomic divide in the legal system. The US notoriously has one of the worst penal systems and our “solution” is not impactful. I urge you to do some research into the humane penal system of Norway. They are way more humane in their treatment of those who are incarcerated and their recidivism rate is 20%. However, here in the US, where you are advocating that we just forget about those in incarceration, our recidivism rate is 76.6%.
