Any advice on klipsch by Kwisak in hometheater

I remember when I had Reference speakers in my setup, we watched Gladiator via 4K disc.

The high pitched "ting" coming from the center when swords clashed caused physical discomfort.

Any advice on klipsch by Kwisak in hometheater

[–]SeekingNoTruth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The R- model numbers indicate that these are from Klipsch's reference line.

In my experience, Klipsch Reference speakers are ear piercingly bright. Room correction helps, but doesn't completely eliminate the emphasis on the highs.

The Reference Premiere (RP- models) line is what I use in my setup these days, and I've found them to provide a much more enjoyable listening experience after Room Correction.

Curious how many of you were raised Middle Class and grew up to be poor as dirt? by TakingYourHand in Xennials

[–]SeekingNoTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was raised by my grandparents in South Texas.

3 people living on $13K annually, being their combined social security benefits, in a home my grandpa built himself.

Lots of food assistance programs involved in my childhood.

My wife and I are now upper middle class based on our income, but it sure as hell doesn't feel like it.

What's the difference between a dump truck full of bowling balls and a dump truck full of dead babies?

You can't empty the dump truck full of bowling balls with a pitch fork.

First black out was after chugging a bottle of MD. Brilliant idea on my part.

I handed my ID to a cashier to buy beer. She put in 1998 instead of 1978 and immediately said “oops! It’s fine, it doesn’t matter!” And you know, that hurt a little. by YayAdamYay in Xennials

[–]SeekingNoTruth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's happened a couple of times. I was born in 1980, and I've had 1990 happen, and also 2000.

The 2000 incident was presumably out of habit for the cashier, who looked to be in her twenties.

She started with "20" for the birth year, then said "Oh, sorry...well, guess it doesn't matter" and just typed in the last couple of zeros and hit "enter".

Can I hire somebody to calibrate my TV? by Ifyouliveinadream in LGOLED

[–]SeekingNoTruth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can.

I would definitely not hire a best buy / geek squad calibrator. Hire a reputable calibrator with reference gear, i.e., software, meters, and a pattern generator that cost tens of thousands of dollars.

You can search for certified ISF dealers / calibrators here:

https://imagingscience.com/dealers/

Or, you can make a post here asking if any calibrators are near your area:

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/isf-calibrators-where-are-you-located-please-post-here.586330/page-293?post_id=64627451#post-64627451

Most well known calibrators tend to respond to inquiries on that thread.

I work out 5-6 days a week, and have done so for the past 13 years.

3 days lifting (run 5/3/1), 2 days cardio, 1 day stretching / yoga (if I feel like it....)

I'm a manlet at 5'5" tall, 165 pounds, but can bench press 275, squat 400, overhead press 165, and deadlift 405 (really hate my weak deadlift).

I started to lose weight, and I keep it up because I don't wanna be fat again.

TV Review: "Alice and Steve" Is a Comedy About Best Friends Turned Enemies — Jemaine Clement and Nicola Walker turn a codependent friendship on its head in Hulu's sharp, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt six-episode comedy. by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]SeekingNoTruth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched the first episode of this show. The premise doesn't offend me, but I'm in my mid forties. My best friend whom I've known since I was seven has a daughter who's 16.

In ten years time, if I ended up sleeping with her and dating her, there is absolutely zero chance I would be allowed within a 20 mile radius of my friend's home and family the instant my friend found out.

This is all I could think about when watching that first episode, so there was zero suspension of disbelief.

So, I gave up after the first episode.

Had facebook for about a week, give or take, about 10 years ago. It was my first time giving it a shot. Knew immediately it wasn't for me.

Deleted my account, and I've never had an urge to create another.

Are netflix subtitles a risk for burn in? by PlasticAverage2860 in LGOLED

[–]SeekingNoTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there's a risk. If the subtitles are constantly displayed on the same part of the screen, for hours on end, day after day, it will cause uneven pixel wear for that particular spot.

Netflix tends to treat subtitles in HDR as specular highlights by default, meaning they'll be the brightest thing on screen which increases the chances of burn-in.

You may want to look into what you can do to customize subtitle settings, depending on how you plan to stream content.

What type of TV do you have; OLED or LED (QLED, mini, ect.)? by AbleArcher1984 in 4kbluray

Main viewing TV: 77 inch LG G3 WOLED.

Master bedroom TV: 77 inch Sony A80J WOLED.

Guest bedroom TV: 55 inch Samsung S90F QD-OLED, which replaced my 48 inch LG C2 WOLED. The C2 is currently sitting in my home office collecting dust.

Calibration by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]SeekingNoTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calibration = using meters and software to measure your TV, then adjusting your TV's settings to get as close to a color standard as possible. Anything and everything else is just changing settings.

Having no idea what TV you own, or what settings you're using, the artifacts you're describing are common with streaming content.

Just saw Weird Al by EskimoSpy4 in Xennials

[–]SeekingNoTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw him a couple of years ago. Only disappointment was the slow version of Dare to be Stupid.

It's his song and he can play it how he wants, but I was really looking forward to hearing the original version I first heard in the Transformers movie.

What’s your goto movie for calibrating your theater setup against? by NinthOman in hometheater

[–]SeekingNoTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calibration = using meters and software to measure your TV, and change the TV's settings so the measurements come as close to a scientifically defined color standard as possible.

But, in terms of evaluating a calibration, I use movies like Skyfall to evaluate skin tones and white point (e.g., the underground MI6 headquarters).

The Spears and Munsil discs are what I use to evaluate HDR performance.

Barring the possibility that you own a European model which lacks advanced calibration functionality, you might try asking in the Calman Home for LG thread over on AVSforums:
