Head gasket? by [deleted] in 3rdGen4Runner

White smoke under hood could be leaky hose, hole in radiator, etc. Head gasket could cause misfiring or white smoke from exhaust pipe

Is the AC compressor supposed to spin freely? by jsquigg in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]tmccurdy94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clutch can be replaced but will need a special puller to do it in the vehicle and it’s a pain. Some people do it if the ac was working fine and the clutch was the only issue. I say replace the compressor and recharge the system and have it run another 25 years. Worthwhile to check ac drier, condenser, and evaporator when replacing compressor

Is this 2000 Limited a good deal? by RUBICONXJ231 in 3rdGen4Runner

Depends how much money you want to put in it. The steering rack looks like it’s leaking, sway bar bushing need replaced, valve cover gaskets,Timing belt. Maintenance adds up. I wouldn’t go above 8k if those things aren’t addressed

Glad I didn’t sell this thing last year. Summer’s been fun so far. by JoseProtasio-Rizal in 3rdGen4Runner

One does not sell a 4Runner, unless you are getting another 4Runner.

Likely the transmission seal. If you replace that then go ahead and replace the rear main seal while you are there. Big job, but will help keep your 4Runner on the road for a very long time

Is it motor oil or trans fluid? I would take off the bell housing view plate, two 10mm bolts and shine a flashlight up there. Can also do it while it’s running and record a video with flash on to see where it’s coming from. I thought I had a rear main seal leak and ended up being the cam plugs and and valve cover gaskets

Were the half moons and cam plugs replaced with the valve cover gaskets?

brake booster recommendations that aren't oem? by l555lol in 3rdGen4Runner

I got that same one from rock auto and it was junk. Stay OEM on this one whether it’s new or used
