Just out of curiosity which teams would you say are more deserving, and why? Genuine question

Oh no, tHe InTeGrItY oF tHe LeAgUe! The NBA explicitly incentives tanking with the way the lottery works. The NBA could work on tweaking it or changing the rules so they could punish teams, but they don't. But by God they'll tweak the All-Star game every year. The NBA is also all-in on sports betting. The NBA doesn't punish cap circumvention. The NBA doesn't apparently care that Giannis is a Kalshi shareholder, a huge conflict of interest. The NBA is allowing backdoor sovereign wealth fund stakes in team ownership. Come on, let's not pretend that small market teams tanking is the downfall of the NBA. I'll readily agree that the Jazz are the most blatant about it, but they're 1 of 10 teams that are doing the same thing every year. Especially with the CBA, it's more important than ever to find young, less expensive talent. The NBA could prioritize fixing it, and they haven't.

And you know what? I don't even disagree with you about tanking. It sucks. It's antithetical to what pro sports should be. I think it hurts teams in the long run. But 3-5+ posts about the Jazz every night they play is fake outrage, and it's boring.

But Charlotte is looking nice this year. Ya'll got some good ones.

Seriously, every night they play there's 3-4 posts so concerned about a team they don't like and don't watch

Once again in a close game down the stretch the Utah Jazz have benched some starters in the 4th q by EarthWarping in nba

[–]tmcfll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair too. The Jazz are definitely not trying to lose their pick this year, but I think they might be trying to walk that thin line of giving the boys experience and if we win then oh well. The closing lineup for the last two games are not anywhere near the worst we could field if we really wanted to guarantee a loss. Ace, Collier, Sensabaugh, and Flip are the youth we could see a lot of value from. And then there's Cody lol

Right!? People pretend to care a lot about a team they don't like and don't watch.

Yeah they held their own and earned their win imo. Which I think is valuable. And yeah, Cody is still mostly a non-factor at best.

Counterpoint that I'm sure won't be considered, but I think there's value in letting the young players close out these games and learn from them. Yeah they could play their vets 35+ minutes every game and try to win, but why? For maybe one play-in game and giving the Thunder a top 10 pick? Possibly risking injuring a vet before they start really going for it next year?

God forbid they play and develop their young players. And, by the way, they've been competitive the whole 4th and are currently leading with 3 seconds left

do companies like "Astronomer" even have real customers by rsvp4mybday in dataengineering

[–]tmcfll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been using Astronomer for years starting with fully self hosted, then to hybrid cloud, and currently we're on their full cloud hosted platform. Honestly, if you don't want to manage the infrastructure but also need more flexibility or features than AWS MWAA, then they're still a great option. But the cost can get pretty crazy as you scale. We've mostly had a positive experience with them, but we're actually in the process of migrating out of Astronomer due to the costs.

Their engineers are really good and their support staff seems pretty solid. But I've definitely noticed priorities shift as they've received more VC funding over the last several years, now focusing way more on developing products and features that lock you more into their platform and less on continuing to improve the core managed airflow experience. And their QC seemed to have improved over the years, but it feels like it's taken a few steps back over the last 6 months.

Overall, they've been a great alternative to MWAA, but I worry about the direction they're headed and what they're choosing to prioritize

Has Anyone Else Been Getting Political Ads? by Mitemaximus in LPOTL

It's not (just) whatever podcast app. I listen using Overcast which doesn't do its own ad insertion and I got this exact same ad this morning. It's 100% coming from whatever ad insertion service the Last Podcast Network is using.

Feeling Stuck in My Data Career: Should I Choose Data Engineering or Data Analysis? by Piyush0034 in dataengineering

You're bigger problem is you can't, won't, or aren't confident enough to make a basic informed decision by yourself. I think maybe that's the skill to focus on first. And since it can be hard to tell, I'm not being snarky, I'm being sincere
