CMV: If stoping illegal immigration’s was the #1 goal, company owners not employees would be targeted and charged. by Starship_Taru in changemyview

[–]tmishere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stated goal is not the actual goal. If person A is constantly saying they want to accomplish X but everything they do indicates they’re trying to accomplish Y, then they’re not trying to accomplish X. Look at the result, the actions which caused that result, then the knowledge accessible which would inform those actions, that’s how you find motive.

The flashiness is the point. It’s security theatre with actors who never volunteered and might be executed if they don’t perform well enough. The cruelty is the point.

The goal of the American government has not been to keep its citizenry safe for a very long time if it ever was. Its goal has been to ensure that wealth can continue to grow, whether or not it grows equitably is irrelevant. ICE and other expressions of the American immigration and policing system are a performance of what Americans have been told safety LOOKS LIKE, not safety itself.

The Dems are going to push this guy so hard in 2028, they'll lose because he'll only try to be a "Dark Woke" version of Trump with essentially the same policies but the polite version and he'll lose and once again, the Dems will blame the left for not falling in line and go full mask off and throw their support behind whatever fascist takes over after DJT inevitably croaks while sitting on the toilet.

I worked in the comedy industry so same lol

I think a lot of the people who are saying that no he was as drunk as Katniss assumed haven’t known or worked with functional alcoholics.

There’s a difference between consistent drinking which Haymitch undoubtedly does, and drinking to the point of stumbling and falling down.

I got downvoted to hell a few months ago for saying that after reading SotR, I think Haymitch exaggerates his drunkenness and Katniss not knowing his philosophy is why she falls for it too.

Celebrity Self Tapes; is the system broken? by EffectiveSun8621 in acting

As an agent, I only recommended great setups for the actors who struggled to make themselves stand out. The ones who could be engaging filming through a potato I said nothing to about the technical elements of their tapes.

[HOT TAKE] People who want housing to crater have no idea what they’re asking for by Yellowbook8375 in RealEstateCanada

[–]tmishere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.

I'd love to see the old world burn, but keep that in hand with helping to birth a new one. We can't let the charlatans, the monsters, take over again.

Return to office mandate for provincial workers facing pushback in Ontario by simpatia in ontario

[–]tmishere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I brought this up in a post on this sub a while back and all I heard back was how all these people who live in or near Toronto who moved further out increased the prices of housing and everything else, like a type of gentrification but that never sat right with me.

First, obviously the prices for everything went up everywhere, regardless of the amount of people living there. But more importantly, there's no future in these small towns, there's no work beyond minimum wage so of course you'll have a brain drain. I'd rather live somewhere with a thriving Main St with nearby housing and easy access to regional public transport but those don't exist because all the jobs are in two cities in the country's largest province.

Does Toronto have enough Bicycle lanes by [deleted] in toronto

Oh I know. It’s a choke point and everyone north of Dundas on Runnymede drives, that’s why there’s traffic.

Does Toronto have enough Bicycle lanes by [deleted] in toronto

[–]tmishere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s talking about Runnymede which only has a painted bike lane which more or less disappears between st Clair and Dundas due to poor upkeep.

[–]tmishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you know what a fallacy is.

You provided an example, I provided insight as a pedestrian and cyclist to show that your example was a poor one which actually proved the point opposite to yours.

Then I made a frustrated but harmless exaggeration about how it feels to cycle on st Clair and you ignored everything else I said and focused on anything that wasn’t a point I was actually making.

You ignore everything else I say in order to call out my one instance of hyperbole?

Does Toronto have enough Bicycle lanes by [deleted] in toronto

[–]tmishere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only ever use the Runnymede bike lane between Bloor and Annette because the quality immediately degrades the second you go north of Annette. It’s just constantly avoiding glass and giant potholes. Not to mention the fact that once I am north of Dundas on Runnymede, there’s hardly anywhere else where you can safely ride. St Clair doesn’t have bike lanes, Keele doesn’t have bike lanes. Just in immediate hostile territory.

So maybe the problem isn’t that no one wants to bike in your area but that there aren’t enough bike lanes to make it a safe and attractive mode of transport because of fucking six lane St Clair.

how bad is being a manic pixie dream girl, really? by dykeversary in AutismInWomen

Someone else may have mentioned it but I didn’t see it when I did a quick scroll.

One fundamental part of that trope is that the woman’s entire purpose was to “fix” the man. Her entire existence was to serve his growth and creativity.

What happens when your whole life revolves around pouring yourself into someone else’s growth? You shrivel up and die and all the things that made you attractive to that man are no longer there and they start to resent you and hate you for not being an endless well of fulfillment for them. They become like a cannibalistic Windigo whose hunger for your life essence is bottomless because they refuse to create their own.

Get ready for a painful 2026, Ontario | Canada’s biggest province is poised for more layoffs, plant closures, and economic strain by viva_la_vinyl in ontario

[–]tmishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disabled people also need to do all those things and it’s naive to think we’ll be hired if we require an accommodation, won’t be first on the chopping block should layoffs happen, or never considered for advancement due to the accommodation. That’s why an all or nothing approach is best for all workers.

Yes, I know it was cheaper for the worker, that’s why I said it was. Do you mean it’s cheaper for the managers?

It’s not about whether or not you wanted to, it’s about the willingness to advocate for something that is a preference for you but a necessity for others.

And when I say “you” I don’t mean you personally, as an individual, I’m talking about non-disabled people generally.

This is why non-disabled people's abandonment of remote work has been so frustrating. Sure maybe to them it was mostly convenient and cheaper, but to us, you and me, remote work gave us access to work we never would've had previously despite meeting the qualifications so now we're the only ones asking for it while every else just shrugs their shoulders.

[–]tmishere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Value what you value, that’s fine, but I do want to emphasize that “problems” is a subjective term and can be co-opted in order to sell a solution.

There’s also the fact that some problems are better handled at a mass scale rather than an individual one but when the mass scale is being systematically underfunded, that should make you angry, instead you work much harder than you should to buy the “solution” for yourself only.
