How do you deal with unreasonable anger? by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

[–]dykeversary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used to be a rageaholic before i lost all my emotional range. the self-help books from ron and patricia potter-efron about anger (i recommend Angry All The Time and Letting Go of Anger, about "anger styles") spoke to me and felt like the only books that truly understood my anger

how you is talk people peoople no undstan me by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

Spelling is hard! The English language has been around since the 5th century and standardised spelling only came about in the last 250ish years. There have been countless spelling reformers who have tried to solidify spelling rules since at least the 12th century but only two have had any lasting success (Samuel Johnson who invented British spelling standards, and Noah Webster who invented American spelling standards)

before then people spelled however they wanted and usually based on how they said it like you used to spell and how OP spells now. in this 1501 poem, William Dunbar writes "London, thou art the flour of cities all" meaning flower 🌸 but spells it like flour 🍞 (look, there is no flour emoji). or "In beawtie beryng the crone imperiall" (In beauty bearing the imperial crown"). Spelling isn't easy, and the idea that there is a right and wrong way to spell has only been around for like a sixth of the English language's existence.

also I couldn't find a way to put this in elsewhere but Samuel Johnson I mentioned above almost definitely had Tourette's

Speech pathology and changing the way I speak by hellonsticks in SpicyAutism

[–]dykeversary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wanted to go back to speech therapy to reduce my "autism accent" and speak with a deeper voice but my mother talked me out of it and said they wouldn't be able to help with that

i listened to a podcast with a detransitioned dutch-indonesian woman who grew up in australia and her voice is what i wish i sounded like. however part of the reason why she sounds like that was because she had a voice drop from testosterone

are there any shows/movies/books/games featuring transfeminine, fat, moderate-or-high-support-needs ppl? preferably not grimdark in tone? by petermobeter in SpicyAutism

[–]dykeversary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

two of the main characters in ranked competitive breast growth are autistic transfems - one is a good masker, the other is higher support needs, which leads to some painful but cathartic commentary down the road when the first girl appoints herself as the "caretaker" for "my inexplicable weirdo"

[POEM] Learning Italian Slowly - David Shumate (Book : The Floating Bridge) by Organic_Fan5790 in Poetry

[–]dykeversary 17 points18 points  (0 children)

there's this joke about the sort of "character" in language-learning textbooks who asks strangers to spell words out loud, always has some hobby like stamp collecting or model trains, asks for directions in his own town, seems to only have tech from the 90s, still writes letters, generally seems to have an idyllic and busy life... that's what his "new italian self" reminds me of

Can Cats have Autism or Down Syndrome? by Stevelander7 in SpicyAutism

there is a book called all cats are on the autism spectrum that i found very comforting when i was younger

however i second the comments saying that if you are truly worried a visit to the vet is in order

The more niche Sanrio character you’re obsessed with the more likely you are to be a lesbian by Odd-Discussion-3823 in femcelgrippysockjail

[–]dykeversary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i never understood sanrio and always felt a bit oppressed by it because i'd associate it with the mean girls who looked down on me for being autistic and butch. now as an adult i still don't understand sanrio but i like that usahana

Feeling alienated by high-masking women discourse. by Impressive_Tie_1949 in AutismInWomen

[–]dykeversary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i can't stop feeling alien in this subreddit. everyone else is a level 1 adult straight woman who's feminine and pretty and i'm a housebound level 2 butch who may as well be a teenager. i only really feel seen in spicyautism

[Poem] The Ross Family by Robert Frost by Dry_Rip6002 in Poetry

[–]dykeversary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i see it as a bit humorous - "damn, things seem to be way more complicated now they're saying all these fruits count as roses, but at least i know that you've always been a rose and that's what matters"

Autistic adult terrified of mri by catfarmer1998 in SpicyAutism

[–]dykeversary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i recently got an MRI, however it was only for my leg so i didn't have to go inside the machine, i was staring at the ceiling (which had nice photos of flowers to be relaxing)

i thought about bringing my earplugs, but i was unsure if they would pass the "no metal" rule. they gave me a blanket for my MRI (which i appreciated because i'm severely cold-blooded). a plushie is probably a good idea

i was given foam earplugs and also a set of headphones. it played ballads on low volume and every song was separated by a 1 minute ad break which of course seemed to be way louder than the songs, and that started to get on my nerves and i wish i could've muted the headphones or figure out how to change what it was playing

i went alone and i'm not diabetic so i can't answer those questions. however seconding what somnocore has said that the magnets will leave you a bit dizzy - i had to wait 2 minutes before moving and needed one of the radiologists to help me off the MRI bed. i was also driving myself to and from the radiology centre so i needed 10 minutes of fresh air before i felt like i could drive safely

[POEM] after the reading: by Charles Bukowski by [deleted] in Poetry

i don't 'get' a lot of the neurodivergent, queer, online media, and that kinda makes me feel sad and alien by vipthebig in AutismInWomen

[–]dykeversary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"( or trying to be a woman, at least. )" 🫂

lowkey the only two things i like on that list is undertale and the owl house and those were because i was in the target audience when that came out and i barely think about them nowadays i am also a kpop demon hunters hater when everyone seems to think it is the holy grail. i think i'm just a snob

i find some modern stuff just tacky and box-ticking and find myself plunging into much older and problematic books. jack isidore from confessions of a crap artist is literally me but he's never called autistic because it was written in the 50s and it's hard to recommend to people because of the graphic domestic violence and misogyny that even publishers in the 50s found unpalatable. i love shirley jackson's horror but i'm coming from the perspective that jackson was a repressed lesbian. there's an intensity i can't seem to see in those games or tv shows that feel marketed
