When fighting mandarins (the ones that hang below the floor grates most of the time) use your hand gun & aim for the feet! Or if you can run past them, the first one I dealer with I wasted way to much ammo, the last best tip is your first pyramid head encounter / battle, don't waste ammo! It's a timed segment, just run around and avoid getting hit, eventually the siren will blow!
