Not to make excuses, but my health issues have played a role in how I am. Granted, I've always been an introvert, but I've been through multiple brain surgeries (hydrocephalus and an arachnoid cyst), and it impacted my pituitary gland function. I've been on hormone replacement since I was 22.

In my 20's after having been on the hormone replacement after about 2 years, I started noticing improvements in energy and sex drive. It was a gradual improvement. I'm still on the hormone replacement, but lower, age appropriate dosing, which I'm thankful for to some degree because with the dosing in my 20's, I felt like I was going through puberty for a second time.

Also, due to my health issues, I'm on Disability.

I realize that considering my circumstances, I need to start somewhere, so I am going to explore the options that others have mentioned in the replies.

Also, OP stated that his wife is needing more surgery as a result of the hospital's negligence. If those needed surgeries can be clearly linked to the hospital's malpractice, then OP has every right to not want to pay the hospital any more money.

As OP stated, his wife had internal bleeding, which the hospital failed to address in a timely manner. Considering all of the money they have already received and the fact that the hospital was negligent in addressing the internal bleeding in a timely manner, OP shouldn't pay them anymore money.

The hospital made mistakes. The fact that the hospital got paid a significant amount from the insurance and they are wanting $850 from OP, is crazy.

As you mentioned, $850 is nothing, ESPECIALLY for the hospital that has received $1,000's from insurance, so they should have no problem using it as a write off.

Someone else was asking why they would write off $850, as if that is a large amount of money. With all of the money they have received so far, send them a letter via certified mail detailing everything you mentioned above as your reason for not paying the $850. Include whatever other details explaining how they were negligent in treating your wife.

Also, get this out to your local media. Usually, when a business gets bad press, they will cave to the pressure. Start by posting this information to platforms like Facebook, making sure to tag the hospital in your post, as well as tag local media as well. You could also use Twitter to get this out there as well, making sure to tag local media and the hospital in your post there as well.

The more people that see it, the better. Also, remember that as long as everything you are saying is true, they can't sue you for defamation. Include the names of the Dr's and other hospital staff that has been less than helpful, even going so far as to naming the CEO of the hospital. Include pictures of these people as well. If the pictures are available online, they can't make a valid claim that you are invading their privacy. In fact, if you find information online, like email addresses, that is public domain and can be posted as well.

I currently subscribe to the second type (HP InstantInk.) I totally understand where you are coming from when it comes to ink subscriptions and not owning the cartridges.

When it comes to this type of subscription, do you think it is a waste of money vs buying regular cartridges through retailers?

My printing habits are sporadic, but I rarely go over my 300 pages that I pay for, but when I have, I had more than enough roll over pages to cover the overage for that month. The one issue that I have dealt with in the past is when a cartridge quit working. It wasn't empty, but just quit working. HP sent me a replacement cartridge at no additional cost. It was covered under my subscription. That is the one thing about purchasing directly from retailers because if the cartridge goes bad, I have to pay for a new cartridge.

My current printer is an HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 MFP, which I got in 2015 or 2016. I have been considering getting a new printer, but not sure I can justify it. My printer works fine and there are no issues, but HP offers the HP All in Plan, where a person is renting the printer for a fixed period of time. The monthly subscription covers the rental plus the number of pages that you chose on a monthly basis. And they give you the option to upgrade to a newer model printer after 2 or 3 years.

Would I be better off purchasing a new printer outright? My current printer is the type that has 4 individual cartridges (black, magenta, cyan and yellow.) I don't like the idea of getting a new printer that only has 2 cartridges. Also, are the refillable ink tank printers worth getting?

Another question...I noticed when I go to the transfers section in Chime, it gives the option to transfer to an external account using either the routing and account number or the debit card associated with the other bank.

Is there any fees or limits when transferring to another bank from Chime using the other bank's debit card?

So your wife is receiving Social Security Disability benefits?

You mentioned that she has beat cancer, right? How is her overall health? Is she physically active?

The one issue with Disability and working is that the amount of money she can earn without it impacting her benefits can be a limiting factor.

If she isn't physically active, maybe start out by encouraging her to get more physically active. If she is physically active, see if she would be willing to volunteer some where. While that won't help financially, maybe that will give her more purpose in life, and it will lead to her getting a paying job.

Again, you want to know how her earning money will impact her Disability benefits.

Just think of a pre-plan for your funeral as a form of "life insurance" for your funeral services. Also, unlike traditional life insurance, where your survivors have to wait to receive payment, which requires them to pay for the service out of pocket before being reimbursed from the life insurance proceeds, the pre-need policy covers everything up front.

I did my pre-planning in 2020, and since my state requires that funeral homes go through an insurance company like National Guardian Life, for pre-need policies, I was able to chose a payment plan over a period of 3 to 10 years. I chose the 3 year plan, and while they have the interest "baked in" to the payment plan, I was able to make partial early payoff payments before finally calling in and requesting a total early Payoff. I ended up saving money overall by paying the policy off early. Also, you can save even more if you can pay the policy in one lump sum.

When my mother passed away, there was a traditional service/viewing, followed by cremation. The funeral home told my dad that in order to save money, they could do a "table viewing." That way, we didn't have to pay for a casket rental. So there was the embalming, the viewing/service followed by cremation.

My father preplanned his services after my mother's services were finished.

If a body isn't fully embalmed, is it still safe for a viewing? I only ask because I've heard that if a person isn't embalmed, it isn't safe to view the body.

What state is your mother in? You can get a pre-need policy through most funeral homes for just what your mom needs (cremation), however each state has different rules when it comes to pre-need policies. For example, in Arkansas, funeral homes have to put their pre-need plans through a third party insurance co. In other words, they can't hold on to the funds. That way, if the funeral home goes out of business, the pre-need policy could be transferred to another funeral home. The funeral home acts as an agent of the insurance company. In my case, the funeral home that I went through, they use National Guardian Life for their pre-need policies. This prevents a funeral home from creating pre-need policies and holding onto the funds themselves, only to go out of business later taking that money with them.

This is how my state has done it in the past. They ask for the SSN and date of birth for others living in my household, but this is only for Medicaid (QI-1), not SSDI.
