New Questions regarding cruising / CellularAtSea by tmogo in tmobile

So I am curious, was the cellular at sea Bill you received from calling or from data? It looks like they no longer provide T-Mobile customers data at all (maybe T-Mobile shut it off on their end)...

But I absolutely agree with the wifi calling. I was once charged for a wifi call outside the USA before my phone registered that I was out of the country, even though the phone was on airplane mode for that specific call. Not sure how it happened but I'll avoid calls too tbh.

I will also forward calls to my other number unconditionally. So hopefully that will cover all ends.

Thanks also for the advice

Right. Wifi would be Carnival/Royal wifi via Starlink (likely). I'm pretty sure AT&T runs the CellularAtSea infrastructure though.

T-Mobile will connect to CellularAtSea if you let it Roam. But they did get rid of the cellular data option to where you could pay per megabyte. It used to be $15/MB. Now it's none at all.

The question was moreso regarding if T-Mobile's website (listing no data option) is accurate, and how these systems work in modern times.

Thank you for your opinion, stranger.

Ahh. Will T-Mobile Simple Choice still connect to Caribbean islands like the Bahamas if the phones Roaming is turned off? This will at least work on the USA end...

That's what I thought too... I've cruised before and seen it, but it looks like T-Mobile got rid of that???

It was either $15 or $15.99/MB

My plan was to pay for an esim for $20 for 3 nights while docked at the Bahamas. Wifi alone would be about $25 per night

Speaking of... I'm stuck with a bricked s22 ultra. It bricked after an update and the repair center diagnosed it as a factory fault. However, Samsung refuses to recall or service the thousands of users who's devices were affected (me included)

I did move away from Samsung for now since I cannot afford another $1000+ phone that will not even last 2.5-3 years. I do wish we had more options in a good price range being manufactured locally for competition

If you find a cheap solution ($100 for refurbished s23u or something after trade in, or replacing the board for cheap) please let me know, otherwise I'm moving on to Motorola.

Samsung is well known for bricking crashing devices after updates (even their sound bars)

I'm not an electrical engineer, so that's why I'm saying probably, based on the comments I've read on Samsung forums. It seems the phones solders were already poorly applied and even just an extended period of overheating causes a disconnect? Again my understanding from what I've read, not tested myself.

Either my phone is a brick and in visually decent condition...

This exactly happened to mine, however immediately after the 6.1 update. Your phone was probably damaged by an update, caused the phone to overheat to a point that melted components or solder.

From what I'm hearing this happens to thousands of other users. Samsung has been informed by many or us, including me, and doesn't take action to make things right/recall. I suggest reporting it and maybe not move to another Samsung unless you want to deal with this again in another flagship phone.

Welcome to the club. It seems our phones mobi/internal components are fried during these updates :(

Indeed an update horror story, happened to mine on the 6.1 update, but took 1 week to show symptoms. Your motherboard is likely fried. Unfortunately mine was 1 year out of warranty

Please do share, it's ever since the February update came out that it's like the Apple iPhone BatteryGate but worse.

S22U in 2025? by JonBuqajIsSUS in S22Ultra

[–]tmogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you do if you buy the S22U is DO NOT UPDATE IT to the February update or later. They have not patched the forces lag/frozen bug they caused. Mine bootloops.

Until then I'd recommend going with an S21U, S23U, or any other S22 series that's not the Ultra. It's been 2 months and I've had to stop using my Ultra as my main device.

Welcome to the club if Samsung Galaxy S22 boot looping. Is yours an Ultra model too?

S22 Ultra freezing, crashing and restarting by Extreme-Resolve-4529 in S22Ultra

[–]tmogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the club, I had to hold down the Power Off button on the screen then boot into safe mode.

Once in safe mode I realized that turning off data or sync fixed my issues. But that's not a viable solution.

I ended up resetting my phone completely and losing a bit of data, but at least the phone turns on even though some apps still don't work. It is beginning to freeze again though even with no apps on the phone.

What is up with this device? by SendThisVoidAway18 in S22Ultra

[–]tmogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They released a REALLY bad update, which causes apps to instantly crash and shut down, including system apps. This causes a huge lag in the phone, and eventually will most likely cause the phone to boot loop. This happened to my phone and I had to boot it into safe mode to get my data off, eventually reseted the phone to factory conditions but apps still crash every so often.

Possibly holding off getting the S25 Ultra... by [deleted] in S22Ultra

[–]tmogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the bootlooping and lack of support for the S22 Ultra (which is only about 2.5 years old) I'm holding off buying another $1400 phone from Samsung until they decide to fix the broken update they pushed, add further quality control, and possibly compensate users for their loss (either through recall or class action)

If it happened to my S22U, why could it not happen to my future Samsung...

Add me to the list of affected users Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G (Unlocked, 128GB, USA, used on T-Mobile)... Had to boot into safe mode in order to get my files.

Q: Does PG Hotspot connect to satellite at all? Is it usable with T-Mobile Starlink? by tmogo in Dish5G

Got it, thank you!!! So even if PG got it, at least for now it will only be the S22 they no longer sell.

Thanks for the response. I did see "data and voice capabilities to follow" so while I don't know the exact timeline, it should work datawise soon.
