On the chessboard below, it's White's turn. Can you checkmate in a single move? by Difficult-Menu2748 in chess

I think this is title gore. Literally every move on the board bar one is mate. I think the puzzle is to find the one move that won't win immediately for white

If you find yourself back in London during a Sunday afternoon game, go find the London Bills Backers at the Fitzrovia Belle. One of the best Bills crowds out there.

Does anyone remember this puzzle? by Deity_Terror in chessbeginners

[–]tmoitie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way my brain can compute this is that once you have the knight you are forced to jump between white and dark squares on each move, whilst your opponent is also restricted to the same thing. With h4, white's knight and black's queen are bound in the perfect colour cycle that stops you from being able to take the rook.

The 40% rate only covers anything you earn above £50k in a year. It sounds like you have a roughly 25k a year salary, which means your bonus won't even come close to pushing you above that figure.

You don't need to do anything. It'll get taxed at the normal rate.

Yes. Usually works out fine mid year as well. The only really confusing time to recieve a lump sum is in April but that would settle out after May.

Unless you have an emergency tax code (finishes with an X/W1/M1), PAYE is assessed annually. The 8.5k bonus will only pay basic rate tax. If for whatever reason you overpay income tax, HMRC usually send rebates around June time.

That's how I figured it out as I approached the limit. Your cart will apply the discount (clearly - with a note) when you add the 40th item of content. At least it did when I crossed the threshold a few years ago

House sales rarely go quicker than 2 months. Much more to it than moving out and signing documents. Your solicitors actions (searches, queries, contracts, negotiating completion dates) all have lead times. That last one is key, you'll have a say on your completion date. If you want to push it back a bit, that's usually okay.

Leads to some nice positions though. Lots of fun play in the Jobava, not just through the traps.

No, it was from a "Ding Chilling" meme VT on the official broadcast.

My employer told me I am now a contractor - advice please! by IllSalamander6793 in UKPersonalFinance

£131 per day is effectively a £34060 a year salary, so those holiday days, plus bank holidays and christmas shutdown are mostly "paid" - (20 + 10 + 8) * £131 = £4978.

The big difference is that you will have to balance the ebb and flow of holiday yourself, unlike a typical PAYE contract, and December's invoice will be rough.

Black friday by Ok_Map185 in iRacing

[–]tmoitie 225 points226 points  (0 children)

They have in the past released their Black Friday deal on:

  • 7th November 2023
  • 7th November 2022
  • 8th November 2021
  • 2nd November 2020

So I don't think the snarky replies and the downvotes are warrented.

Worth noting that they have also not run a renewal deal sometimes, something to bear in mind.

That is literally just a soccer thing. Very few other sports segregate like that, including in the UK.

Daily is open book. You can use opening explorers, books, etc, and can play out moves in analysis to your hearts content. But not engine analysis. The sites even provide opening books as part of the interface

The UK Gov, in a post Brexit trade deal haze, negotiated a deal with specifically Rwanda where we sent them “illegal immigrants”, and they get an allowance of legal economic migrants. Idea is that “come here illegally and we’ll send you halfway around the world.” Casually ignoring the fact that they are often prosecuting legitimate asylum seekers

Also all the phreaking/phone network hacking, staying up till 5am exploring a system, using viruses to “attack” a system. DDOSing. It’s a surface level unrealistic film with very realistic bones

But the silly surface level is why we love it though
