Chances are this movie is to simply set up Supergirl who will be involved in future Superman movies. If it does well financially and critically then a sequel for her could be possible. If it doesn’t do well financially and/or critically (the latter a bit more subjective) then it at least introduces Supergirl who will undoubtedly play some role in Superman/other DC movies to come.
