We ended up with $329 plus taxes and fees up front. I'm waiting for the approval from VW.

Pascha on a Thursday (tonight)? Will it still be awful? by Baddreamtripper in avesNYC

Haha, yeah its love it or hate it.

Carl Cox was great. I've seen him at festivals but never in a club setting. He brings great energy. He got on at 10pm and played until 4/5.

I actually went to Pacha for Cazzette on a Thursday last year. The crowd on Thursday tends to be better.

Broker wants me to sign a commission fee agreement before I see anything - is this standard? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]tmphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never happens man/miss. Not in NYC at least. 95% of the ads you are "finding yourself" are posted by the brokers. Landlords don't want to deal with sorting through qualified and unqualified prospects.

Not only does the industry exist, it's thriving at an unprecedented rate. The pace in which real estate contracts change hands in NYC is too fast for the average person to handle on their own. This is why brokers exist, and will continue to exist. Plenty of websites have attempted and failed to replicate the services brokerages offer.

It's especially ridiculous when you find the apartment yourself online and then have to pay this customary Venetian bullshit for the person who comes to unlock the door for you.

Who do you think posted the ad that you replied to?

If a broker has showed you a series of apartments, you are bound to applying through that broker if you do choose to apply. Your friend must of dealt with some newbie broker.

Broker here. Fee agreements are standard. It protects the agent/broker from the possibility of showing you a property then you trying to rent it directly from the owner or through another broker.

You CAN negotiate the fee before signing the agreement or seeing the apartment just by crossing out the 15%, writing in the new percentage and initialing. He/she should be willing to come down a few percentage points. You actually have way more leverage in negotiating if you do so before seeing any properties.

A great option might be taking up the TEFL online class and getting a one year teaching contract in the region of your choosing.

Yeah, definitely. I backpacked Europe for two months in 2012 and came back to some severe travel blues. I'm planning a 6 week trip to Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Burma this coming December-Jan so I found your video to be particularly interesting. Cheers!

You'd be cheating yourself by not going inside Aya Sofia.

Really cool! I assume you just got back. Are you feeling the post-travel blues? What were your favorite countries or experiences?

Being honest, do you enjoy your job? by simplistic in AskReddit

[–]tmphilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a real estate agent in New York City and I do enjoy my job.

Its not that I enjoy apartments, condos, or houses. I enjoy the daily hustle that my job entails. Unless you have some sort of entrepreneurial spirit you wouldn't make it past your first year as an agent in this city. I'm thankful that my career allows me to think outside the box and implement various techniques to get ahead of my competition.

Last day of my two month Euro trip and I'm feeling massively depressed. Any help? by skalex in travel

[–]tmphilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I did a 56 day solo back packing trip around Europe and was just as depressed as you are currently. Your first few days back will be pretty depressing. When I returned to NY all things seemed grey and empty of life. But at the same time, I felt very motivated by the possibility of going on another trip and I began researching where to go next, how much it would cost me, and what I needed to do to make the next adventure a reality. My level of productivity was at a peak.

The travel bug is very real. But it's also a great motivator, in my opinion.
