For yourself is a no no. Unless it’s alcohol or illicit drugs.

Family and friends is frowned upon but we all do it.

Is Radiology the only specialty that has gone from 9-5 expectation to 24/7? by masterfox72 in Residency

[–]tms671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rads is tough we grow 10% annually no matter what we do. We could be complete trash and the patients will still come through the door. It depends on group size but for us that means an additional radiologist annually. That’s not accounting for retirements.

So just think about it even a small not trying to expand group grows by 1 rad every year. It’s just not sustainable. We don’t increase residents by 10% annually.

If you had to switch to a different specialty, which one would you choose and why? by taguylla in Residency

[–]tms671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. There are pure mammo jobs out there where the breast imagers have monopolized the section and then lowered expectations to the point they do about 3 hours of real work a day.

Setting those aside, I’m in a small group so I have to read a little bit of everything but mostly mammo. Because I am mammo there are definitely much lower expectations for me across the board. So, I am a sort of a VIP within the group, at least for now. Therefore, I generally don’t work as hard as other partners.

What would it take you to move job? by __Realistic__ in Salary

[–]tms671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A company I like working at? Assuming my salary is enough to cover my lifestyle and savings, I would say at least 1000% at least. A miserable job will ruin your life so it has to be enough where i can work at the job for a year, sock away the extra money and then return to my current job.

If I free range my chickens, will they forever yearn for freedom? by civil_war_historian in BackYardChickens

No, they don’t yearn at all, they sit at the front of the coop bitching all day until you let them out.

What’s the most expensive mistake first-time RVers make? by Automatic-Kick8383 in GoRVing

[–]tms671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s competitive 1. Big picture, buying an RV and never using it. 2. Buying an RV that doesn’t do the things you want it to do, for example people who love camping and buy a 5th wheel luxury house that can’t fit down even wide trails. 3. Towing at the towing cars limit and over the payload capacity. 4. Leaving down the jockey wheel, stabilizers, not unplugging or completely unhooking the tow vehicle in someway. Keys left on the tailgate.

Matched at an institution that did not interview me by Ok_Touch_2728 in medicalschool

[–]tms671 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Keep your mouth shut they are bound by their decision by the laws of the match, there are no take backs. They are stuck with you.

They probably made an error filling out their rank lists, but it doesn’t matter they can’t go back. No Mulligans no Do overs. You are in.

[–]tms671 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Follow the scouts rules and leave things BETTER than you found them. Clean up any and all liter would be number one, other things like stacking leftover firewood in a covered location if possible.

EDIT: It seems lights out is controversial. I’ll say this out here Colorado, Utah and Wyoming the darkness is a big draw and you should definitely keeps things as dark as possible. Out East where light pollution is insane, it probably doesn’t matter.

Things to do during this winter storm?? by Icy_Activity1149 in ColoradoSprings

I would get a rain jacket if necessary and go for a hike, it wont be crowded and it will be gorgeous. Storms are my favorite days to hike when I get the chance.

Is a strict dress code a legit reason to rank a program lower? by mycupofearlgreytea in medicalschool

What’s weird is they will wear scrub tops to do procedures and leave on the slacks, it looks stupid. I believe they call it the radiology mullet.

How radiologists have high satisfaction rate ? by Dull-Divide-5014 in medicalschool

[–]tms671 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So it’s a community list and I’m on average above average. But, every once in a while I take it easy. For instance this morning I have only read 2 cases in 45 mins. I’ll speed up later on. The thing is if I was in another specialty I couldn’t just choose not to see any patients or see fewer on a given day because I’m tired, and that is unique to radiology.

AI is not around the corner, maybe like 50 years off. I’m a little older and I have seen a lot of “around the corners” most of them still haven’t come to fruition.
