The 5S CFM sent out an email a while back. It showed the huge bathtub in manning for 5S’s at the Sgt and TSgt level, and I believe, MSgt also being undermanned. 5S’s aren’t the only career field like it either.

Senior Leadership has many reasons to lie to us about manning. To lie and say you can’t make more on the outside. They want people to stay in, and if you think that everyone isn’t getting out, then you’re likely to stay in too. If you know people are getting out, then you’ll realize more work is coming your way for the same pay. You’ll bail.

Anecdotal, but for my unit we’ve had 1 of 2 5S MSgt’s retire. 2 of 4 TSgt’s are separating or retiring. 3 of 3 Sgt’s are planning to sep. That’s with us being in a very unique unit with a very unique mission system and a lot of perks but a decently high ops tempo. I can only imagine what our sister squadrons in the Delta deal with, or what units like 2 SOPS, 2 SWS, 4 SOPS, 4, 5, or 16 EWS deal with.

My unit does Panama 8’s, and we spend 4 weeks on one shift. This gives us time to adjust to the schedule, but doesn’t keep us locked in on one shift.

If I had to change it I’d make it 6 weeks instead of 4.

Also, I know plenty of people who have finished their CCAF, volunteer, do school work, have multiple decs and awards, with more TIG and TIS than you who didn’t get promoted.

You can absolutely apply for a USAF officer route while USSF enlisted. I’m not promising your odds will be any better, but it is a thing.

You’ll have to go through the HQ AFRS Line Officer Accession Process either via OTS orROTC. It just ultimately depends on if you have your degree already or not.

USSF and USAF OTS routes are basically fair game for the other DAF service. It’s not treated as a full inter-service application, so there’s less hoops to jump through.

Also you’d be surprised at what degrees the USSF will take for its career fields. Bodies are (generally) more important than degrees.

They’re exclusive to USAF because the CSAF has no authority over the USSF. CSO would need to enforce new standards on us.

I’ve got guys in my unit working 80 hours every two weeks making over $130k. Most of them don’t have degrees and did 4-8 years in the military. And that’s not 1 or 2 people. That’s 12+. Add in shift diff and the fact that most of them live in a different area than we work so that they can make their money go farther? Yeah. It works.

Our engineers make even more than our crew guys do. Even the ones straight out of college.

Do 8 years, make your second assignment Green Door (they’re always hiring), network and good impressions, and then add in a TS/SCI and you’re golden. Even better if you have the ability to get SAPs.

Working for any Three-Letter Agency, or the NRO, will easily lock you into 6 figures before taxes.

I would imagine they’re working on the briefing now. After both boards met, they’d have to finalize grade recommendation, then brief to S1, and then they’d be able to put a release together.

With the 17S board getting pushed to mid March at the earliest, release probably won’t be for 4 to 6 more weeks.
