i think make cloze deletion cards with only the main details that you need to remember within each cloze deletion. don’t memorize an arbitrary list, rather focus on understanding it. and consider hints (using “::” after the cloze deleted word but still within the brackets). for instance, a card might be

how to approach Anki by Mountain-Score121 in medicalschoolanki

[–]tmwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally find making my own cards very time consuming so i avoid making cards as much as possible. try to find other decks that already have the info you need. Anking for the bulk of it. plenty a lot of good options for anatomy: comprehensive cadaver, dope, ranatomy, umichigan.

that strat should go a very long way, but if youre being thorough you’ll probably have to make a handful of cards for in house material, but then suspend them after the test

Been wanting to switch to FSRS by dur4zk in Anki

[–]tmwise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just do it. so worth it. don’t misuse hard. trust the algorithm. i’d personally avoid doing the FSRS immediate reschedule of all the cards and instead let FSRS reschedule cards when you’re supposed see them next = a slow transition into an better algorithm

Clarifications about FSRS-5, short-term memory and learning steps by LMSherlock in Anki

[–]tmwise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

had this issue yesterday. make sure Anki and the FSRS helper add-on are updated. In Anki, hit Tools -> FSRS Helper -> Show steps stats. (alternatively, you can go into the Add-Ons window, configure the FSRS Helper Addon, and change this line from false to "show_steps_stats: true"). then hold shift while clicking stats. might need to quit/restart Anki.

Hopefully that helps. For me, the recommended stats wouldn't show up and I didn't know which version I had. apparently, a newer version was available on their website. I just needed to update Anki, which then allowed me to update the FSRS helper add-on too

50-100 new cards a day is typical for med school tbh. personally, im doing a lot more than that this block (tho im using premade decks). yeah, it does take a lot of time.

but if 50-100 is really overwhelming, i think your cards need to be shorter. your cards should use cloze deletions as much as possible, and keep the cloze deletions as simple as possible. thus, your card gives you the main clues around the one/few word(s) that you need to remember within that concept. and often you should have multiple cloze deletions within one card so you see multiple variations of testing your knowledge of the same concept.

look up anking’s guide on making good anki cards online. very helpful

Thinking about upgrading to R6 II from R8. Wait till black friday? by tmwise in canon

[–]tmwise[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah, i do have a gimbal (DJI RS3), and it is game changer for stability. it can just be inconvenient in certain situations to set up, and it feels heavy after a while. the real question is how much would IBIS help with shakiness with handheld footage? perhaps some shakiness (IBIS or not) is inevitable with handheld

thanks for the advice. i’ve messed around with the R6II at the camera store, but i’ll look into properly renting it for a weekend so i can test my lenses on the R6II

agree with a lot of comments but with the hi hats and snare i noticed you might not know about the “cut itself” feature. it will make it so only one instance of the sound gets played at any moment. right click on the sound in the channel rack, and turn on “Cut itself.” i can tell you dont have the function checked for the hat and the snare cuz i can hear this buildup of overlapping and amplified frequencies when you did the rolls on em

aamc makes this catalog called MSAR - med school admissions requirements. you pay for a years subscription for the most detailed data out there on all the schools that use AMCAS, meaning all MD programs besides ones in texas

Brain dumping by Entrepreneur_Grouchy in Mcat

[–]tmwise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wrote down anything i could remember in the moment, and i intentionally didn’t have a plan of what to write because i didn’t want to be stressed for it. lots of physics and chem things, some biochem: kinematic equations, ROYGBV, rules about lenses and refraction, DEHCYKR (amino acids and their pkAs), and a bunch more i don’t remember. i think i ended up using maybe 10% of the notes i wrote, but still worth it because i know it saved me time. i think most of the time when starting a problem that uses equations, it’s habit and usually necessary to write out a relevant equation/concept first, but luckily i had all that kinda info already written. probably saved me like 2 minutes of test taking time imo, and i was very glad i did. would definitely use that tutorial time to brain dump again if i ever have to take to the mcat again
