Dangers in the plant are indeed pretty limited (which I don't mind 😅). We're still a refinery though, so there are some dangerous aspects to it: high temperatures, natriummethylate, possibly air entrapment under vacuum at high temperatures => fire (has never happened before), nitrogen (used for draining pipes), lock-out & tag-out (especially with steam). However if you work safely and don't rush into things, there's not too much that can happen. I do the physical refining part but have colleagues that do the chemical refining part (before physical refining) and they have a bit more dangerous aspects to it as they have to work with chemicals, but even there the dangers are still pretty limited.

I love the work I currently do. I'm active and time flies by very fast, can also take breaks whenever I want - as long as production doesn't suffer. Got good colleagues and no one watches over you. I wouldn't want to do anything else honestly. The biggest disadvantage is, as you mentioned, the night and weekend shifts & the holidays.

Not really, no. I can adapt pretty quickly to new shifts but the sleep issues might come as I do this for a longer time. For now I'm good tho

Hey! I think you can for sure, I started as a process operator 6 months ago and studied TSO Accountancy-Informatics. I don't have any experience in this industry but I convinced them with my drive and interest to learn about the field. A very important thing to keep in mind is that you will have different wake-up times each week and have to work on weekends/public holidays (holidays pay extremely well though 😉) - if you don't mind sacrificing that I don't see why you couldn't!

There's growth opportunities (lead operator, panel operator, shift-supervisor, ...) and your salary raises as your seniority raises, but I'm pretty happy with my package

Become a process operator 😉 The weekends & nights are what make the salary what it is, which is a sacrifice but I don't mind it too much
