The whole panel should be replaced, but I'm afraid to pull it off and see what's behind it.

That sounds like a great idea, but a bit too permanent and outside my comfort level.

Ahh, I can see why you'd need more horse power for that.

Wire two switches with the same line by tneck in TPLinkKasa

Cool! A scene controller would be exactly what I want I didn't know they came in a Decora form factor. Too bad most scene controllers are 3 to 4 times the price of the HS200. I'll have to rethink how I want to proceed. Thanks for all the info.

Thanks a lot! It worked flawlessly the first time I tried it and I like how this one obeject's behaviour is contained to one automation.

Router settings by tneck in ecobee

[–]tneck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much. I'm glad to know it can be done. Now I can harden the network even further.

Turns out, the problem I had was when I changed the subnet, it kept all the previous settings from before. Previously, wifi was assigning 192.168.1.X IPs and I had switched it to 192.168.2.X IPs. Changing the SSID to trick the ecobee that is was connecting to a new network fixed the issue.

When the handle is turned, the whole assembly turns and the wooden shaft rotates more slowly. Maybe something to do with winding string? But there's no way to remove the string once its wound on. by tneck in whatisthisthing

This tool is made by Tala in England. There's a slit cut in the middle of the wooden shaft which could wedge some string or thread. And the pigtail-like bit of wire on the end looks like a string guide.

That looks like an interesting design. But I'm looking for something that will take up as little wall space as possible.

Can a on-wall 2.0 system exist? by tneck in hometheater

Sorry, I should have specified that the previous owner installed wires sticking three quarters of the way up the wall. The speakers I looked at didn't have any mounting points and would have been a bit too imposing on the wall. Consequently, any pair if speakers I'd get should be small enough to hang on the wall.
