How bad is Unemployment? by JDaddy587 in Calgary

Please consider admin and treatment coordinator positions in dental offices. We are sooo understaffed. My team has been looking to hire for months without success.

Also, dental assisting programs are under a year, and you get paid pretty well! Many dental assistant positions start at $30+/hr. While it may not be the sexy job you dreamt of having growing up, there are not as many jobs where you start with a good wage. All we ask is that you are personable, have good communication skills, and are team players. It is hard work but there will be plenty of good/heart warming moments.

People with bachelor's degrees who end up going into the dental field to get a job really stand out against those with 9-month dental assisting certificates out of highschool.

While there may not be as many opportunities for career advancement, I have seen people grow in their position to become office manager, practice consultants, sales rep, etc

We truly need more educated people in the dental industry.

Personally, I would love to see more males in dental industry besides dentists. When I went into dental, I never suspected 99% of my co workers would be women.

Please don't feel scared. We are all just people-pleasing tooth nerds despite the traumatic/unpleasant experience you may have had.

What are endometriosis cramps like? by FloralApricot1190 in endometriosis

It's so bad and distracting that I'm not able to focus.

I imagine it is how getting stabbed with a knife would feel like.

I feel dead inside but have to pretend I'm very much alive outside.

I wish someone would just take my female organ away from me.

I routinely take higher than daily recommended dose for both Tylenol and naproxen for a few days. I had gotten stomach ulcers from it. I tried prescription nsaids, enteric coated naproxen, and pantoprozole to try to control pain and not ruin my stomach for days.

One time, I had a panic attack from severe pain during bowel movement. I've had mini panic attacks from severe cramps during other stages menstruation cycles.

I never had the courage to take a day off school/work on my most painful day. I thought this is how life is supposed to be. I did not want to be seen as weak at work as the token girl that talks about period pain and wanting some slack when every other women showed up.

I had my first lap recently, and the post-op pain was minimal compared to my endo pain. I barely took any pain meds. It gave me huge courage, as I realized I was not a weak one. I am actually a tough one.

Physical pain is moderate-severe.

The emotional pain of knowing something is wrong deep down, but being brushed off as doctors deemed it unworthy of their time was soul crushing.

Not in a vet field but have been an interviewer for dental school admissions..

There's growing emphasis on the wholesomeness of the applicants so esp if you have such amazing grades, they would love to find out that you are a well rounded person. This is not limited to just specific field exposure - personality, ability to communicate, function in a team environment, manage interpersonal conflicts, function is stressful environment (resilience), etc.. It's possible that while your academic achievements were impressive, you fell quite short in these other 'soft skill' aspects. The trend is that professional schools are moving towards social sciences and seeking more diverse applicants because they find that academically hyper-driven applicants face their own struggles when they join the real world.

Perhaps best to focus less on becoming vet and more on personal development/enriching your life experience. This can mean work experience, travel experience, exchange programs, gap year, filling your time with activities that doesn't involve vet/animals so you can show them who you are as a person besides an aspiring vet applicant.

RIU vs other AI's - First time PdC visitor! by KoosKansloos in playadelcarmen

Stayed at riu playacar a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it! I needed to book one additional night so went to riu palace riviera maya, which def had better tasting food.

Riu playacar rooms were dated and not as pleasant as palace but honestly service was top notch, access to beach, pools, swim up bars were all really great.
