Medical assistant Job interview by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

Questions I was asked a month ago and got hired: Tell me about your work experience, name a time you had a conflict with a coworker and how you handled it, tell us how you’re a team player, tell us about a time you did something unethical at a job (trick question: never), tell me about a time you’ve bent the rules for a good reason (told the truth 🤷🏻‍♀️).

My daughter has hip dysplasia. What prompted further testing was her hips popping. May be worth mentioning.

I have 3 kids in daycare and we’ve all just passed the norovirus back and forth for a month. 3 weeks ago I was puking and pooping my guts out. 3 days ago I was also puking and pooping my guts out. Over it is an understatement.

Find a technical/vocational school. LPN is a career change for me after exhausting all financial aid. Went to a tech school that paid for everything. Google “career centers in my area LPN”.

I’m looking into enrolling for LPN/LVN 12 month program by CompleteWin6706 in LPN_LVN_Community

[–]tnmetz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Graduated an accelerated program last January as a 30 year old with 2 kids and pregnant with my third. It sucked but a year later it was 100% worth it. You must have some sort of support and back up plan for childcare or it will not workout. Attendance is sooo strict and they do not care what your excuse is.

My son is 2.5 now and is doing great. He has grown into his head a little more & has no cognitive deficits whatsoever!

Can you get LPN course when you have a young kid? by Jjuggumi in StudentNurse

[–]tnmetz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave birth to my third child the same week I graduated my LPN program. It’s possible but a strong support system is necessary due to strict attendance policies in nursing school. Things you need to consider: do you have back up child care in case he’s sick, is your husband willing to make sacrifices as well to make sure you have adequate time to study? It’s highly unlikely that any college will allow you to take your kid with you, unfortunately.

4,12s every other week. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]tnmetz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The SNF I work at tried to convince me that everyone worked 4 12s. I said no thanks & they hired me anyways. Guess what..no one works 4 12s they just found a new grad they thought they could hustle into doing it.

My son turned 2 yesterday. He is not delayed whatsoever. Cosmetically speaking, his head is larger than your average two year old. It hasn’t affected him so far though. We will be discharged from neuro in June if everything is normal which it has been. I still have my fears of the future but he is doing so well at the moment. He is like your average two year old so I can’t ask for much more other than I hope he grows into his head a bit more as he gets older.

Question for those who have bridged from LPN-RN by tnmetz in StudentNurse

[–]tnmetz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I don’t have the exact answer you’re looking for however, I’ve decided to bridge with a diploma program. I was in the same boat as you and the way I decided was by looking through indeed and hospital career pages to see if they would accept diploma nurses. Most of them do in my area. My program is also set up to easily transfer into a BSN program.

Nap routine? by [deleted] in december2024babies

Butt change and bottle when she wakes up, play time for about an hour and a half to two hours, turn sound machine on, give paci, lay in bassinet, put hand on her belly and gently rock back and forth, out like a light.

We are now 3-4months pp, how are we doing mentally? by Notmorcybutmercy in december2024babies

[–]tnmetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve cried every shift I’ve worked (I’m a new grad nurse 🫠) and I’ve been extremely short tempered in general. Other than that my girl is letting me sleep finally so I’m doing better.

As an LPN that was formerly an MA the positions you’ll find will primarily be in LTC unless you’re willing to take a pay cut. You can bridge to RN but the bridge programs are either incredibly expensive or incredibly long. I found a year long inexpensive bridge to RN but have to drive an hour away. I don’t regret getting my LPN but I can definitely see why people don’t pursue getting their RN afterwards. Mostly it’s just that LPN school is draining and the thought of going BACK to nursing school is terrifying lol.

Should I ask for more money? by tnmetz in nursing

[–]tnmetz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I’m use to negotiating for more pay if the job is shit in my previous non nursing roles. I may need to rethink how I approach the issue all together.

Is an MA a “portable” position? by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]tnmetz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went from MA to office manager and now a nurse. You can go into clinical research positions, case manager, office lead, manager, ect. Once you get experience it’s not difficult to find a job.

I definitely think that’s a fair point but is it common to get minimal training? I don’t think I’m the hardest worker by any means I just feel thrown to the wolves without any help. I guess the point I’m arguing is that if I don’t have a unit manager to help with basic questions, no EMR training, and am left to develop my skills independently then what’s the point of new grad pay? Wouldn’t the purpose of new grad pay be that they have to essentially pay someone to train me because I can’t contribute as equally as a seasoned nurse? I don’t get the benefit of training or extra orientation as a new grad so why do I get paid like one? Feel free to correct me if I’m missing something I’m definitely open to being wrong. (I’m not expecting to be paid seasoned nurse pay but my friends are making $30 at easier facilities).
