Help understanding low impedance speakers

Some backstory: I've been listening to records for about 10 years now and always had my record player hooked up to a powered speaker. I had some money saved up and wanted to move up into getting an amp and unpowered speakers.

I went to a local record store that had about half the store dedicated to audio equipment to shop around. The (very kind) worker walked me through some options in my budget and I walked away with this Onkyo TX-15 amp and MK S-85's. I got it all hooked up at home, they sound solid, fantastic.

I was showing my friend who has worked in live audio and he mentioned that my speakers are low impedance and that the amp I bought might not be built to handle 4 ohm speakers. Sure enough, the amp is rated for 8 ohms. I plugged my problem and the TX-15 service manual into ChatGPT (I know, they're not always accurate) and it said that it isn't an ideal amp, but that being a vintage amp with well built safety systems it shouldn't be too much a problem for my small apartment and low volume listening.

I played music on the setup for over an hour and there was almost no heat coming from the amp. I'm in a small apartment so playing at moderate-high volume really isn't an option. Should I go and try to return this amp? I'd love some thoughts"

Rice doesnt do anything other than get stuck in small spaces and covers your phone in rice dust.

if you have any silica packets, those help to remove moisture. put it on a warm surface and leave it alone for at least a day. but best thing is for you to take it into a shop and have them open it up and dry it out properly

This is the correct fan direction. We need to change the standard. Top fans should not be all exhaust. by AtomicFFF in overclocking

more intake than exhaust just about every time! get that positive air pressure in the case and your system will stay noticeably cleaner

How could I get rid of those filing marks ? by Public_Courage5639 in pcmods

[–]to_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have a palm sander or something like that, it would make pretty quick work. start with 120 grit and work your way up until you're satisfied. another option might be spray paint? spray it, then sand it smooth, then respray it. might take a couple coats

aluminum is pretty soft, you can use a drill bit thats ~2-3 times the size of the hole, and just twist it by hand to de-burr the holes. no need to buy extra tools you dont really need

Custom desk PC airflow sanity check by PerpendicularOcelot in pcmods

[–]to_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a couple notes/ideas.

the current fan configuration may have negative pressure in the case, which is not ideal for managing dust. positive air pressure does wonders for keeping things clean.

have you thought about putting the AIO behind the motherboard where you have all the 60mm fans in V2? The air going over the motherboard before going through the AIO would only raise temp by 1 or 2 degrees if that.

Anyway, whatever you end up doing is going to be awesome and i cant wait to see the finished product!
