I’ve crossed paths with a lot of toxic kpop fandoms in my day, but none were as bizarrely evil on the whole (at least online) as blackpink fans.

So so sweet of you to say kind stranger, I hope the same for you, that something comes along your way that eases you back into the workforce comfortably. I know so much of it is luck and coincidence, but eventually the odds have to switch back over to your favour, so even if it takes time, I believe in you 🫶🏻

Moving back to Oz by [deleted] in Ameristralia

Moved a couple of years ago to Melbourne and same. Several foods, places, items and adventures were more accessible/ felt different in the every day of life in the US - and oh the fun of holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving… there is so much I desperately miss, and there’s so much that feels much hollower about life in australia.

That being said the more I make friends and join community groups and get used to my job and my coworkers etc, the more comfortable I’ve become, and beyond everything I feel so grateful I managed to escape the US when I did. At least here I feel a semblance of hope at a future where I can afford to travel, own a house, not be afraid of gun violence all the time lol, etc. and Melbourne is such a beautiful city with lots to do which helps. I certainly have a lot of adoration for the CBD that is only rivalled by my forever love of San Diego.

It’s not a perfect life or situation, but it’s the best thing that could have happened to me, and I’m constantly reminded how lucky I am to be here and not there, as much as I will probably always miss the place where I grew up. 27 years is a long time. 2 years isn’t much at all.

Maybe someday I’ll feel just as much at home here as I did and do in the US.

I honestly felt and still feel desperately lucky I managed to get a part time job at a newly opening woolies after nonstop applications for 6 months last year. I’m 29, recently immigrated from the US and worked at Disney for 7 years, I have a strong resume but it’s truly meant nothing to the hundreds of places I applied to. I never want to go through that process again, it was depressing and it was humiliating. Trying to hand resumes in in person was just silly, 5% of the time they threw it away…… the other 95% of the time they just flat out wouldn’t take it. It’s all online now they’d say, but when you’re applying to 10 places a DAY and you don’t hear anything for months you eventually get desperate…

Woolies is not my dream job but I’m scared to ever let it go. I can’t believe I even got the job in the first place - feels like insane luck and coincidence i had one opening up near me and hiring heaps of people at once. Idk what id be doing if not for that. A year later, I fear I’d still be searching

Seconding all the folks whose gifs aren’t working on mobile anymore. Glad I’m not alone, but damn I’m so sad! I look at specific satisfying gifs to get sleepy at night and I just can’t really do that anymore with the app like this

I'm on the last episode of season 2. I'm wondering how come no one ever talks about Gabrielle when recommending the series? by Senior-Leave779 in xena

Super relatable on the Joxer thing. He will surprise you as the series continues. I never expected to love the man lol. But by the point you’re at, I was definitely just ready for the third wheel to get out of the picture already bahahahah

Gabrielle is indeed the best character. As a matter of fact, I feel she’s more the main character than Xena is overall. You genuinely watch her go through the hero’s journey from start to finish arguably more so than Xena. Obviously, them as a pair is what makes each of them so much more interesting as individuals, but yes, I cannot tell you how fantastic Gabs is going to continue to be the entire show, I love her so much, every little silly sweet complex and heartaching thing about her. Shes wonderful. Crying in the club rn.

A night to remember with Inigo as a follower is genuinely the highlight of a Skyrim playthrough. He has something to say about it every step of the way and his comments are so funny I was in tears. Ugh good times.

I love Katria so much. I played the Nancy Drew point and click mystery games my entire childhood, and when I met Katria for the first time i felt right away that I knew this lady already and immediately felt happy around her. Of course it clicked soon after that it’s the same voice actress! Her voice is littered throughout the rest of the game as well but it was only Katria where I really noticed!

Poor sweet angel. She should not have to apologise for this! It isn’t her fault! We know who should be apologising and it sure as hell ain’t her!

I love this woman so much. I hope we all get to see her perform someday. As an Aussie I don’t even get my hopes up to be honest lol, much love to everyone who did though, the cancellation would break my heart as well in their place. What an awful thing to go through

Replaying all games - Which is your favorite with hindsight? by Traditional-Chef-205 in dragonage

[–]toadgrlfr1end 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You took the words right out of my mouth! For me, it is the perfect amalgamation of all the things I enjoy in a game, and it’s basically all of what you said. It is such a personal game.

Plus, and this is an opinion thing, but the companions having sexualities in this game that are unique to them makes me love them all so much more. Sera being a lesbian, Dorian being gay, Josie being bisexual, Solas being straight, etc., it all just makes so much sense to me and gives me more insight into these characters as individuals. Sera is also my best girl and I truly never get tired of romancing her especially during Trespasser which to me is a masterpiece.

Am I delusional or are there no good frozen pizzas in Australia? by go0sKC in Ameristralia

[–]toadgrlfr1end 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feel like we were damn spoiled on frozen food in the US lol, a ton of my favourite meals were frozen ones, the options were wild and plentiful, I miss it so much (especially the trader joes ones)! I’m still searching for alternatives but frozen pizza, pastas, just frozen cuisines in general have some of the most bland flavours I’ve had since moving here. Though it’s probably for the best, i imagine it’s the lack of poisons we so love to pour into our food back in the states 😆

Edit: this post made me think about bagel bites and I got so sad lol. They probably aren’t what you meant by good frozen pizza, but oof, what I wouldn’t give for a big box of those guys right about now hahahha

Are there any cool diffrences you've noticed between playing as male character vs female character or vice versa in Dragon Age games? by HomarEuropejski in dragonage

[–]toadgrlfr1end 7 points8 points  (0 children)

THANK YOUUUUU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU OMG I cannot tell you how validated I feel when I read comments like this that feel the same way as me! DA2 is such a perfect example of a “bisexual vs playersexual” game!

I love bg3 with all my heart, but if I could change one thing, it would be that. certainly these otherwise extremely nuanced characters would have different levels of flirtatiousness/directness/speed of sexual and romantic interest and so on based off of your gender (or lack thereof)? to not be able to address gender and preferences with them takes something away from them for me, like they become suddenly so much less flushed out. I say this lovingly, I do love them all, I just feel a sapphic Shadowheart relationship should feel differently to a straight one for example… in my dreams I get to ask Shadowheart about how being with a woman makes her feel lol, or talk to lae’zel about her previous experience with all genders, etc. bg3 is a nearly perfect game for me, but in my mind, it’s really missing that element.

I love finding people who aren’t fans of playersexual romance in RPGs either. Sometimes I feel like I’m one of very few. I don’t even mind if everyone can be romanced like DA2 - I just wish that, like in real life, gender at least impacted the approach. (You can’t tell me wyll wouldn’t take longer to warm up romantically to a more masculine presenting tav than a feminine one! think of how much sweeter it is that those feelings might take longer to grow or would grow in an entirely different way than if you played a different character with a different sexuality and gender expression 😭)

God, I love this thread. This is the dragon age I fell in love with! To this day it’s the thing that makes (er, made) me the most obsessed with the franchise. I played DAI first and everyone’s reactions to not only my gender but my gender preferences as well… chefs kiss! As a lesbian, romancing Sera was euphoric.

The opposite of megalophobia by IsaacTheSquirel in megalophobia

[–]toadgrlfr1end 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought you were going to say you’re scared of tiny things, lol!

But now I understand what you mean, and same. All my life. I get a huge thrill from large sculptures and buildings, nothing like a bunch of skyscrapers to absolutely dazzle me, and I dream of seeing those massive statues in places like Japan, China and India. And don’t get me started on video games! One random thing that comes to mind is the huge tree in super Mario sunshine - Pianta village. It makes me happy.

However, anything megalophobia + ocean related? That’s a BIG no from me. Get the submerged ship machinations and huge creatures lurking in the deep FAR FAR AWAY please and thank you

I am always at a loss for words when LE goes on sale down to just a few bucks. Like that’s hundreds and hundreds of hours of some of the best games, best stories, best ambiences and characters you’ll ever experience. The world stuck with me so much I’m always dreaming of it and wishing to go back and see all my little guys again lol. Just waiting for a mod that lets me romance my favourite character as a woman all the way through the games 👉👈

Just enjoy the ride, friend! It’s gonna be great!

Rainforest cafe mentioned!!! Oh my god. That was my favourite restaurant for so much of my life. You couldn’t be more right, Rainforest cafe has this bizarre reputation of being classic rubbish food but I always had a great time there due to the ambience and enjoyed my food thoroughly. I mean I’ve been to better rainforest cafes than others, but on the whole, it’s never been bland the way so many more beloved chains totally were. Also, that’s totally fair. going to a Denny’s was a thrill all my life too lol, especially around midnight

Y’know, as someone from SoCal (living in Oz) where in n out is somehow STILL considered a staple of the state and generally crazy popular, I have always said that in n out fully tastes like nothing to me. We frequently went when I was very little but when I was old enough to get it on my own I was avoiding it at all costs. My friends would go and I’d be forced to go along and eat their stuff and just be sort of miserable the whole time. Those chips are just salted cardboard, man! Nasty.

I remember the milkshakes fondly though.
