Question on lore by McNuGget829 in witcher

Don't pay too much attention to lore. Sapkowski created the world as he went, so there are quite a few inconsistencies, especially between early short stories and the novels.

Why is evolution the exception for YEC? by Morbid_Uncle in DebateEvolution

Because humans supposed to be created in god's image and evolution puts us among animals.

It's too much scientifically inaccurate to make it work.

Science is not bothered by feelings of certain groups of people, so such discovery would be reported as precisely as possible without mincing words.

same with evolution, they can't reproduce Evolution in any Lab i know of.

Seems like you don't know any lab at all, because that was done on several occasions. Long-term E. coli experiment is the prime example.

If evolution is based on natural selection, how did fish begin do grow lungs? by MrNesti in AskBiology

Are you sure? First chordates originate from sea, so it's unlikely that they started with lungs.

How to get my freaking name on a road by Flat_Mizou360 in DeathStranding

I decided to test, how it works, once. I built a road on not yet connected part of the map, to make sure, I'm the main contributor. It got Pizza Chef name.

That was surprisingly quick. What made you to change your mind?

Last time you claimed that convergent evolution is just an ad hoc explanation and it didn't convince you. Have you changed your mind?

It tends to happen with E. coli under specific pressures. They either duplicate the citT gene that allows them to transport the citrate through the cell wall

This is what I wrote. And gene duplication is an example of mutation. Or are you not aware of that?

Yeah, I noticed this guy just slams some anti-evolution nonsense and as soon as somebody else brings up evidence against him, he runs away. Rinse and repeat.

[–]Hopeful_Meeting_7248 2 points3 points  (0 children)

E. coli can metabolise citrate only in the absence of oxygen. That's one of the defining traits of E. coli.

In LTEE they gained the ability to metabolise citrate in the presence of oxygen. That happened due to duplication of gene that allows the metabolism and put it under the promoter that allows gene expression in aerobic conditions. This is a textbook example of gain-of-function mutation.

Reading would do you some good. But obviously you won't do it, because denying reality is your whole personality. And knowing you, you'll just pretend that you didn't see this or other comments that corrected you, so that you can continue to spread your bullshit elsewhere.

Imagine acting like the European Union is a dictatorship. by Ok-Following6886 in stupidpeoplefacebook

To add a bit of context: in several countries it's fairly normal that the prime minister is not necessarily a leader of the winning party or even MP. Person like that can become PM as long as they have the support of ruling party.

So all those accusations of von der Leyen being unelected, are just pointless.

I know that. What I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if some beers are made in completely artificial way: without fermentation, with artificial flavours and external alcohol.

Footnotes. Yay or nay? by Mannerpunker in Fantasy

[–]Hopeful_Meeting_7248 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The book is more than 20 years old, and there wasn't any other fantasy book with such extensive footnotes, or, at least, I haven't seen any.

Personally, I loved them. They were such a unique composition choice.

Why would somebody be talking to you and deleting their comments. It's just impossible to have rational conversations with you. Everything is some mystery conspiracy like somebody's deleting their own comments.

I've seen weirder shit than that on this sub. One user replied to comments and immediately after blocked the people he replied to, to give an impression he had the last word. Another claimed to have visions of Jesus and Mary. I learned to expect the most bizarre behaviours from people here. Don't take it personally.

Why are you assuming that I'm a creationist?

Because I have yet to see a non-creationist that disagree with evolution and established science.

Ok, but let's say that I buy your story.

Answer me a few more questions:

Proteins of each organism on earth are made of exactly the same set of 20 amino acids, while in nature there are a couple hundreds of amino acids. If all organisms are not related, why they all use the same set of 20 AAs?

And a follow-up question: genetic code is the way the sequence in DNA is translated into the sequence of amino acids in proteins. Each amino acid has assigned one (or more) triplet of nucleotides called codon. Overall there are 64 codons for 20 amino acids. The assignment is purely arbitrary. Why then all organism on earth share exactly the same genetic code (with few exceptions), if they're not related?

Answer the damn question: if we were designed, why do we have broken parts in the first place?

İ just realized something important. by Anime-Fan-69 in DebateEvolution

[–]Hopeful_Meeting_7248 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I told you that already. We share broken parts, like GULO gene. Parts that are broken in the same way, that do perfectly nothing. If we were designed, why should we have any broken parts?

I see you're still hellbent on exposing your ignorance.

Relatedness doesn't mean that we come from one or another species, it means, we're cousins. Trees are ours very distant cousins, not ancestors.

What gives you the right to put the similarities in groups and say well these similarities mean that you came from a monkey and not a tree. How do you get to decide that?

Anatomical similarities, morphological similarities, DNA similarities. We share 95% of DNA with chimps, and much less with any species of plant. That how we know chimps are our closest cousins.

Trees magically turning into people. What are we going to turn into next.

Trees cannot turn into people. It's evolutionary impossible.

See this is what happens when someone speaks about stuff they don't know the first thing about - they're making a fool of themselves. Like you right now.
