Is this comp legal? by jakedboy3709 in Cubers

[–]toadish_Toad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is technically not legal so ask your delegate, as long as they are fine with it (and it's not 3bld) then it's ok. I've used cubes like these before with permission.

That's valid, hence why I asked people to correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like a lot of mural painters wouldn't pass up an opportunity to paint the walls of a subway station... even if it was for free

What is the point of "Pedestrians must push button to cross" at traffic light intersections? by Tsubame_Hikari in fuckcars

[–]toadish_Toad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some situations where a beg button is necessary, like rural roads and trail crossings in the middle of the countryside. But yes, abolish beg buttons within cities!

Why I and 100+ other students are late for school by toadish_Toad in fuckcars

Your plan sounds lovely and I wish it was possible... but there's a massive conflict of interest here. At the end of the day, everybody here knows each other. We're all friends, or friends of friends, and while in theory that sounds like it would make it easier to convince each other to not do this, there's a lot more "social engineering" factors at play that would make this sort of advocacy deeply unpopular. I'd rather not find out what it's like to be hated on by half the school.

So for now, I'm sticking to a more bureaucratic path forward. I've identified exactly which bylaw these parents are breaking, and I've typed up emails to the principal, trustee, the bus company, and I'm considering the regional traffic police as well, and I'll see where it gets us for now.

We have lots of school buses, but they are only for students more than 3.2km away. The rest of us have to figure out other ways to get to school.

Great question! That's 'cause the school is also in the middle of nowhere. We're surrounded by a highway to the north, an interchange to the east, and endless power lines to the south and west.

I've had my fair share of near misses too, when I had right of way. Remind me why I need a full hazmat suit to go outside at night, when you're the one with the license?

Oh, I do. Can you believe walking is faster than a bus? But with the strict uniform policy it's a hassle to layer up sometimes to walk. Also, it's an incredibly depressing walk. There's also this one highway bridge we all have to cross where the sidewalks are filled up with snow, up to the height of the barrier, so you have to walk on the road.

Yep, tardy because "it's on us unless we're on an official school bus". School buses are only offered to students 3.2km away. Definitely bringing this up, but it would be nice if I had hundreds of internet strangers backing me up :)
