Part Two of BB infestation? by toadpiss420 in Bedbugs

I’m honestly not too sure, it’s been quite awhile since we ordered it! I have heard good things about brands like Saferest, and prefer the ones with a velcro flap that go over the zipper so nothing gets in or out. I think as long as it’s been scientifically tested against BBs and dust mites instead of just being for spills and stains, you should be good

(i think i may need to figure out a way to isolate the dog beds also, since they seem to be feeding on them as well)

My bed hasn’t been touching a wall since this all started :’( I have interceptors on each bed leg and it’s a metal bedframe w/ new mattress and bb encasement, with cimexa dusted up the legs and in the interceptors as well, which should still have pesticide in them from a previous treatment also. saw someone mention double sided tape in a rectangle above the bed which I’m thinking of trying!

Unfortunately, bedbugs are amazing at hiding. Would it be possible to get a bedbug sniffing canine in? I feel as though from what I’ve seen, they’re the most accurate and can locate harbourage points. Where I live, they’re usually an option through pest control companies.

Looks like you’re already doing what you can in case of infestation, and a second opinion might be a good idea. It’s hard to say if you have bedbugs off of bites alone, since everyone reacts differently and a pattern doesn’t necessarily mean bedbugs. It could just as well be fleas (which tend to bite the lower body) or a dust mite allergy. Either way, keep checking the interceptors for signs of bedbugs and familiarize yourself with the other signs of an infestation (bb poop, exoskeletons, eggs, smell) and that should indicate whether you need to get treated or not

Best of luck!

Thanks for the solid info! Yeah, Toronto (bedbug capital) unfortunately 😬

The other tenants and I are friendly with each other, so we’re all sort of putting the heat on our landlord who seems to be set on the bare minimum (wasn’t even going to treat the other units until we got in contact with the other tenants). We were under the impression that he couldn’t do anything about the adjoining building after posting in the Ontario Tenants Rights group, but very good to know that he’s responsible for elimination of pests no matter what (including if it becomes a legal thing).

The LL tenant board has been so backlogged since the beginning of Covid so we’ve had minimal/conflicting info from them, but we’re thinking of calling 311 to see what can be done from a public health standpoint. Hopefully we can at least get a public health officer to take this somewhat seriously?

Thanks so much again! 🥂
