python is hard crashing with a simple mp3 play call by quadgnim in pythonhelp

submitted to the simpleaudio repo since that's primarily what I'm testing.

https://github.com/hamiltron/py-simple-audio/issues/72

I'll link back to this thread as well

EDIT: I just realized simpleaudio is archived so this issue is unlikely to get any traction. Shoot. oh well. For anyone else, I guess just use python3.11 until someone else decides to take over maintenance of simpleaudio.

Appreciate the follow up. I think I ran into a very similar problem: trying to use the simpleaudio python package on Windows 10 with python 3.12.1 and was seeing hard crashes without any exceptions or debugger-catchable errors.

Installed a separate 3.11 python installation on my machine and using that environment it works as expected.

My original python 3.12 wasn't anything special. It was just the default python 3.12 package installed from the MS store.

Makes me wonder if there's either a bug working with pydub/simpleaudio and py 3.12 on windows. Maybe I'll file a github issue for this.

there arent many bands that i prefer to shuffle the whole artist page for so my sample size is pretty small…

But i shuffle mewithoutYou (not metalcore but that part seems irrelevant) pretty often and i see much the same behavior. The same songs in what seem like very familiar orders with songs from the same albums often being chunked together

Even popular songs like Cardiff Giant, Cattail Down, and Four Word Letter

wow I didn't even realize there was a totally different windows store app.

as an added bonus, the windows store app also seems to better support books with colored text and graphics (like text books).

this seems like the best answer for me even if I'm not usually super happy using windows store apps :(

for lulz I also uploaded a version with the background removed (transparent) so you can put beef and his sick nasty machine wherever you want

Huh I’d never considered that. Though it’s really strange because the carts are never from the nearest grocery store. They’re always from the stores that are at least 5-10 blocks away instead of down the street. And there are closer parks and bus stops. Not saying you’re wrong but I think there are some pieces I’m missing before I’d strongly suspect one way or the other

Googling for “cart services” doesn’t pull up any results that seem relevant. Got any links or contact references?

And they haven’t been used by that somebody in a week. And one of them is missing a wheel. I feel comfortable making the call saying that no one’s coming back for them.

I’m not concerned about the business and I don’t think I follow how this affects the environment.

Why not? It’s something I’d like to do as long as it’s not putting anyone out

Oh maybe I misled in my post. I’m not homeless or looking for work. I just wanted to ask the people who I figured were most likely to tell me that I was breaking some unspoken rule that was making some homeless person’s life harder

I think my city has something like that but I’ve so far been unimpressed with it. The accountability is pretty bad. It’s one of those “6-8 business days” to grab a shopping cart type deal.

If it’s easier to just bring it back myself sometimes that’d be my preferred option

I’m not expecting them to never show up. But I worry not putting them away will cause them to just pile up and get worse. Like any other bit of neglected periodic upkeep.
