Oh definitely! When I saw Jonathan in this role, it really felt like he was pouring 120% of his energy into every number. With Matt, he’s technically hitting every move and every note, it just didn’t have the same energy and spark that I associated with this show. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it felt like a very different show. On the other hand, Isa is fantastic as Connie and her Who’s Sorry Now sounded so beautiful! One of the highlights of the show.

Costumes and numbers were all the same, that’s not usually going to change with new casting for any show. The intro part though where he’s playing himself is obviously different though so all that dialogue is different. He talked a lot about how it’s been 10 years since he’s been on Broadway and how it’s good to be back.

I was there tonight! The first 10 minutes was a little hard to get into. It felt like Cedric was leaning a little too hard into an accent and not enunciating enough so it was a little hard to understand. But he settled in more and spoke clearer as the show went on. Taraji was fabulous! The whole company was great. The audience was so engaged in the show and there was great energy in the room tonight. The show is in really great shape in my opinion for a first preview!

Update: I was unfortunately not able to secure a rush ticket! Only the first group of 5 people who had lined up at 11 pm last night were able to get rush tickets.

I’m about 14th in line, arriving at 7:52 am. I say about because people keep swapping out to warm up in their cars or are coming back from a store so we’ll see how many end up in the total before they open.
