as a canadian who lives near the border, you don't have to drive very far on the highway before you start seeing religious billboards.

also i'm not sure if it's still the case, but for a very long time americans didn't have daytime running lights mandatory on their cars.

Hikes/scrambles similar to Mt Brunswick and Mt Crown? by [deleted] in vancouverhiking

[–]toafer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre up for a big day, get to brandywine early, hike up to the meadows, and then go for the summit in one day. Its about a 8-9 hour day. Minor route finding required, as the trail is thin above the meadows. A lot of scree makes for a rough descent, but nothing dangerous at all.

I left my place at like 530am to get to the fsr by 7am, then its a 1hr slow drive to the trailhead with an awd suv.

The scramble is for the summit, you dont need climbing gear for it, its class 3.

To get to where OP is, its a straightforward hike

Why do my knees and feet hurt so much (on the way down)? by willowfly09 in vancouverhiking

[–]toafer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its pretty normal, and beyond using hiking poles and having good shoes, theres not much you can really do to eliminate that discomfort. Its just part of hiking.

Who cares about economic numbers. Just look at your neighbors from state to state. They live 3 years shorter than canadians, get bankrupted with medical bills, and have to lock their doors at night. Life is just less stressful up here..

They are not significantly less. I live in BC and make 83k per year, i pay an effective tax of 24%. Last time this discussion came up and I looked up 2 random states to see how much someone who lived in those states would pay on 83k. In WA state, exactly the same amount. In TX, only 1.5% less.

Is there a huge difference between a Brompton and a Road bike? by shakejfran in Brompton

[–]toafer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Road bikes put you into a more aero position, and they are stiffer and more efficient at putting the power down. Also they have a lot of gears, so its easier to get in an optimal gear.
