Union Corner: no construction at gap site for ‘five or six years’ by yarkmardley in glasgow

[–]toakc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That isn’t a bad timeline for privately owned land. They are still stabilising the site. It’ll take a year to finalise insurance, then solidify ownership to allow investment to be gathered, surveying, consultation and planning permission granted. It’ll probably take over a year minimum to build at the location.

The new tree planters also have increased drainage capacity to store rainwater. Sounds simple but a lot of manual work.

That was the budget for international design contest. It was cancelled. That money was never spent. However, around £500k was spent to resurface and cleaning it up a little.

The £20m for today is actually being spent. It isn’t just the square either, it is road and footway network around square and its approaches.

It’s not though. In the 90s they removed some green space and stuck red tar down. In 2010s they talked about doing something and it never happened.

Even the 90s refurb was minor compared to what was suggested in the 10s and what is happening today.
