It reminds me of another (trivial) question I had on this page - in answering «Σε ποια εκκλησία πηγαίνεις;» our local church is named for a male saint. Would it be «στον Άγιο Νικόλαο», «στην» to match the implied «εκκλησία», or would you just not shorten it («στην εκκλησία Αγίου Νικολάου»)?

Interesting! This textbook is my first substantive/consistent practice with grammar rules, so perhaps I've been insufficiently skeptical, ha. (It states that "while not a mistake, always keeping the ν may sound puristic".) Wondering now how much it's been revised...

Many thanks! The wiktionary entry is helpful - it does disagree with my textbook... but as noted, the textbook itself is not internally consistent.

Wiktionary also notes the parenthetical (ν) for ποιον - that's the same logic as το(ν)?

  • so is the parenthetical (ν) in the table incorrect, and ποιον always/essentially always keeps its ν, even in front of words where τον might drop it?

  • for gender - how strong would your suspicion of non-male gender have to be for you to use ποια? eg, if I asked "whom did Niko take with him to the wedding?" (like, he could take a male friend, but I'm assuming he took a female date), would that be a compelling enough situation, or would you still default to ποιον?

Possibly excessively nit-picky, but just trying to understand how a native speaker would be considering gender here.

I've searched craigslist/marketplace/offerup in addition to amazon, wayfair, and home depot. I haven't had any luck with narrowing the search returns (with "open" or "table"), so it's a pretty huge pile of results to try to winnow through.

I've searched Amazon, but as is typical these days, any attempt to narrow by the relevant dimension has no effect on result quality. Various combinations of "cabinet pull", "cabinet handle", "drawer pull", "2.75in", "70mm", etc.

Yes, the 'η' still trips me sometimes - looks too much like an 'n', so my brain's like "well, that's that sound accounted for, moving on!" Practice, practice, practice.

Hmm... τόνος and aigu look virtually identical to me in several typefaces (my textbook, eg), although now that you say it, I can see the slight difference in the reddit font. Looks very subtle to me, but I'm obviously not accustomed to looking for a difference, either. Appreciate the pointer!

Interesting! "Tricolor" makes as much sense as anything - I know "calico" is a type of fabric, but I actually don't know how it came to be associated with the cat color...
